sounds OK to me. Pads and discs maybe a bit expensive. They're only charging you £60 an hour for labour by the looks of it.

i would probably do the brakes myself

    http://www.vwspares.co.uk/a3brakes.php

pads and discs total from above = £94 inc vat £10 del £15 caliper piston rewind tool (halfords) - Grand total = £119

    your quote £155 + £60 labour (1hr) Grand total £215

    nearly £100 saving

They'll be Zimmerman vented fronts, and thus should only be £50. For £105 you can get Black Diamonds, so thats too much.

Pads are an OK price as long as they are genuine or Mintex.

Oil Filter £21??? Should be £7 at most.

Check on the type of the spark plugs, standard genuine Bosch ones are £3 each from GSF

Vented discs arent OEM, so I assumed they wouldnt be entirely OEM parts, hence overpriced unless thats for some Denso Iridiums (about 4 billion times better than NGK's)

EDIT- I am now assuming Vented as in standard vented discs, solid, but vented in the middle, as per OEM.

Available from GSF for £41+VAT in 312mm for S3.

No i have all the part numbers too and checked the prices of the parts on VAGparts and they all seem to be ok... except the breaks (pads and disks)

That quote is from Audi in reading except my friend is doing the labour for a little cheaper.

The vented disks are part number: 8N0 615 301 A
    Pads part number are: 1J0 698 151 M

The oil filter you said was expensive is 15.90 on VAGparts so about a fiver cheaper, but im not gona cry about a few quid here and there.

How long would it take an Audi engineer to do pads and disks on a car... front only? An hour? half maybe?

The oil filter is still overpriced, you can buy a Purolator filter for £6.99 (Better than OEM).

However, total time for the brakes and the rest of it would be about 2 hours, and £60 an hour is fine compared to the £99+VAT an hour that Ridgeway Audi charge.

Buy the parts your self and get the mate too fit them... just tell him you know someone with a trade discount card... his feelings wont be hurt then. The brakes are an easy job to do yourself aswell!

yep i agree especially with the brakes. mine are due so i will be buying all oem parts cheap and doing it myself.
even halfords AA quoted £480 for front and rear pads and discs supplied and fitted.
i can get the oem parts for approx £160 and the caliper piston rewind tool for £15
