Does this exhaust pipe need trimming ?

Some of you may have read the trials and tribulations of my adventures of fitting a new DP.

I now got to the bit of conencting the sports cat to the rest of the (original) backbox.

There is approx 13mm overlap of the two pipes. There is enough flexibility in the exhaust system for me to butt them up, bu it does mean the thing is under pressure.
Is this ok, or should I trim the length say by 40mm so the pipes, especially the downpipe end is not under constant pressure ?

i cut mine, and fitted the sleeve over the top packed with gum gum.
will get back to you in the morning, have seen an inline catch can online but cant find it.
