Remove level checker plug and look for attached swarf. Dip oil (w/finger) and observe general condition/quality before renewing.
If you PM vehicle reg I'll forward oil capacity and spec.

You will need to remove the under shield, yes. The checker is at the front of the gearbox about half way up. If memory serves it may be an anti-tamper spline bit (special) that is required. If not, its a 17mm hex bit (non-special). Your reg is not showing up in my VRM I'm afraid so I can't confirm which.

Although renewing manual transmission oil is not an Audi "service item", based on the current quality/condition of the the oil, this may or may not be recommended regardless of miles.

Where abouts is your garage mate? Been thinking of getting my gearbox oil changed but most garages round me don't have a clue how to do it on my car?

The gearbox oil won't need to be changed as its designed to last the whole life of the gearbox but it certainly would benefit a change due to the mileage, you'll probably notice nicer gear changes.

Is it recommended to stick to the OEM Audi gearbox oil? I believe it is the G052171A2 at £16/litre.

Don't believe everything Audi say .

This should of had a service interval.

Couldn't agree more. Don't ever believe the 'sealed for life' BS they come out with.

Every 60,000 if you're me, basically with the major service and cam belt...My A3 is DSG but this is the schedule I followed on my diesel Corolla.

Contacted my local Audi specialist (Russell Automotive Centre in London) and they have quoted me £180 inc VAT to change the gear box oil. I asked how much it would be if I supplied the oil and it was £126 inc VAT!

Is it a long process of changing the gearbox oil? Why is the labour quoted so high? I thought it was as simple as changing the engine oil.

Also, are you sure the Fuchs SINTOFLUID SAE 75W-80 synthetic is exactly the same as the Audi OEM G052171A2?

Just had my A6 1.9 done, (supposed to be 2.3 litres but put about 3 in before there was a show) the drain and filler is a M16 splined tool, £7 off Amazon

Youngest sons mate did it, not difficult just jack up front on one side and use the M16 tool to drain and open filler, not worth paying anybody really.
Amazon product

Seems Opie Oils hasn't updated it's Fuchs recommendations , where as if you go to Fuchs website , TITAN Sintofluid FE SAE 75W is the one for you plasma .

Then please explain why my local Audi specialist is charging £126 for labour only to change the gearbox oil? Surely it's more than just a simply loosening a nut open filler and re tighten?

Plasma please god do not pay that for gearbox oil change 15 mins do it yourself

Main dealers will charge a minimum of 1 hrs labour (£100+ ? ) and the oil is expensive, other than that I aint got a clue I`m just an ordinary punter like you.

Okay now I'm really confused. Just searched up this forum:
https://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=306204
And it states that the correct OEM fluid is the Fuchs TITAN SINTOFLUID SAE 75W-80?

it says "
Assuming you mean 6-speed manual, use only OEM (quite expensive) fluid p/n G 052 171 A2. Nothing else. This means no "Redline", "Royal ..." or other no-name stuff. The only one fluid you can use instead of OEM is Fuchs TITAN SINTOFLUID SAE 75W-80 since this is exactly 1:1 what is in the OEM bottle.

This is the correct procedure how you should drain/refill your tranny:

2.1L is a refill of a fully dismantled transmission. 1.9L is for partially dismantled.
To drain a 6-speed transmission completely,
1) lock the selector fork
2) remove the drain plug under the rear of the transmission
3) remove the pivot pin under the main body of the transmission
4) install the drain plug and the pivot pin with new o-ring
5) unlock the selector fork
6) remove the reverse light switch
7) with a hose approx. 600mm long and 10mm outside diameter attached to a funnel, fill the transmission with 1.9L through the reverse light switch fitting hole
8) reassemble. "

Looks pretty complicated and now I don't know whether to use Fuchs TITAN SINTOFLUID SAE 75W-80 or is it the Fuchs TITAN SINTOFLUID FE SAE 75W?

Okay, contacted Opie oils and apparently the Fuchs FE 75W supersedes the SAE 75W-80. Both can be used for my vehicle, originally my car must have come with the SAE 75W-80.
