I thought i would start a new thread for this, so it does not get lost in the other one.....

This is a guide to ultrasonically clean your injectors, plus fuel pressure regulator... AKA, FPR thats what i will be calling it on this how to, for obvious reasons.
I have tried to do the how to, so a completely clueless person can understand, so dont think im being patronizing ....lol

Safety first,,,,you are messing with the fuel system, there is likely to be a little fuel lost in this process, so bear that in mind....

So to start off this is the fuel rail, where all the attention will be
    [IMG]
    By d121m at 2011-05-14
    and the FPR...
    By d121m at 2011-05-14

Start off by unclipping the electrical wiring loom
    [IMG]
    By d121m at 2011-05-14
There are 3 clips holding the loom to the rail and simply push off
Next is The FPR pull the hair clip type thing away from the FPR.... Then pull the vacuum pipe of the FPR
    [IMG]
    By d121m at 2011-05-14
Then get a cloth and put it over the FPR then twist and pull at the same time,(be prepared for some fuel spillage) it may be tight and require some patience but it will eventually give in, put it somewhere safe for now.
    By d121m at 2011-05-14

next is to get the little clips off the top of the injectors that hold each connector on,
a bit fiddly, i got a small screwdriver and eased them up, make sure you dont drop anything as it will be lost forever.....put all 4 safe and pull the connectors off each injector,
    [IMG]
    By d121m at 2011-05-14

Next is to remove the rail from the manifold...(it is still connected by the fuel pipes no need to touch these)
there are 2 cap head bolts to undo (again make sure you dont drop them)
    By d121m at 2011-05-14
    and the other one...
    By d121m at 2011-05-14
After these are removed and kept safe its time to pull the rail up with the injectors,
once free of the manifold you can get to the injector clips (yes more clips) these simply slide out
    [IMG]
    By d121m at 2011-05-14
    a pic of one out....
    By d121m at 2011-05-14
take all 4 out and keep the safe, then pull the injectors out of the rail, sometimes the O ring keeps in the rail ... just hook it out and put it back on the injector
once all 4 are out you are ready for the fun part....Bath time...
    injectors before their clean

    Next prepare your ultrasonic cleaner....
    By d121m at 2011-05-14

I used very hot water and a cap full of james sea solution and put the cleaner on max 480 secs
Get the injectors in along with the FPR and watch the **** come out of them...

when it is finished the water looks like this:
    By d121m at 2011-05-14

Take them all out and shake then let dry for half an hour or so,....Clean injectors!!

Refitting is a reverse of the how to, being careful not to lose anything make sure everthing goes back the way it came off, start the car and check for leaks.....
My car took a lot of starting (well third attempt) this time round must have got a bit of air in...
so dont worry if it does not fire up as usual when first started...

    TOOLS NEEDED

    allen keys
    small screwdriver
    small pliers
ultrasonic cleaner + fluid Ultra 7000 Ultrasonic Cleaner : Ultrasonic Cleaners : Maplin
    *on offer at the moment*
little vid showing the cleaner doing its magic....

Its the injector seats that leak more than anything, not the seals.

Anyone in the north west happy to help me with an experiement? I want to try ultrasonically cleaning my injectors in one of these maplin machines, then get the spray patterns checked then cleaned on an ASNU machine to see how clean they actually get them :)

Hope my mpg increases. Ive run my car on vpower all the time which is meant to clean your injectors to so be interesting to see how much gunk comes out.

Just found some JPL sea cleaner at Maplins so going to get some. Sorry if this has already been said but do you fill the bath with warm water and add a ceratin amount of the sea cleaner to it.

I used to until they started having supply problems
A capful per 200mls I did two and also add a dash of washing up liquid in the first clean as they are bound to be filthy.

No Dave,I used ETKA to get seals and it shows BAM having two different ones, fitted them and the lower ones were loose (suspect straight away),but went ahead and had a whoosh and it was surging so put the old ones back on and sweet.
Very filthy water though...have I said that already :)

mine have just had their bath. VERY dirty, but rings look all good. had to clean them once with cap full, then a further 180s with frest water washing up liquid (still **** came out), and then cleaned the outside by hand (bit oily) and a further 180s. slight crack in the orangy plastic ring at the bottom of one injector though (present when i took it out, nothing to do with cleaning). Any one else come across this? its not snapped, just a bit of a crack

Has anyone had GREAT difficulty putting the fpr back in?? mine is refusing and im nearly to the point of putting my weight on it. Dont want to break the rail though so if anyone can suggest other means, that would be great.

no problem, managed to get it on in the end. Might of been something to do with letting them dry in the sun and the rubber o-ring expanding a bit.

What are these seals on the injectors i keep hearing about? Ive read somewhere about there been two seals to an injector, is this just reffering to the top o ring and bottom o ring that sits into the manifold?
