dash panel pointers

Discussion in 'A4/A4 cabriolet/S4 forum(B6 chassis)' started by imported_b4rkie, Sep 3, 2005.

  1. Hi,
Just had a new dash panel fitted on a 1.9tdi se 2001.

Everything is ok, except the pointers now do not illuminate unless the lights are switched on.

I remember that the 4 needle pointers used to illuminate no matter what.

Any idea what the problem is? I know I should take it back to the garage but I was wondering whether I could sort this?

    Cheers.
    Tony.

As far as I can see there's 3 possibilities :

[1] it's fecked (unlikely if new)
[2] it's not been connected fully
[3] you're checking it in the dark (i.e. garage) and the sensor is dimming the dash to tell you to turn on the lights (do it in day light or shine a torch on the dash)
[4] they haven't coded it to operate. Take a look _HERE_ and you'll see these options :
    There are four lighting modes:
Mode 0: Nothing lit until ext. light on
Mode 1: Pointers lit all the time
Mode 2: Scales lit all the time
Mode 3: Pointers and Scales lit all the time

  3. Thanks mate. Had a sneaky suspicion this was a coding issue.

Its already been back once for adapter channel changing because they didnt enable the MPG/Journey time etc on the DIS.

Thanks again - another trip down there on Monday beckons!

Yep, must agree, it is an adaption issue on the dash panel.
Tell yer dealer to go into Guided Fault Finding, function component selction sub menu and then follow the list below.....
    BODY
    01 SELF DIANOSIS
    17 DASH PANEL INSERT
    CONTROL UNIT FUNCTIONS
J285 ADAPTION OF RADIO CLOCK, DIS
Make sure that it reads pointer illumination will light up on first stage.
    HTH
