CV gaiter

    I noted when I arrived home after a superb day at the pod my alloy has oil on the inside and a bit on the face,I had this changed on dec 9th as it was an mot issue.
    What is meant to be the life of these and how are they fixed on just so I have some knowledge when I phone them tomorrow.

    Its more likely the stupid metal clamps loosened to allow the grease out, a quick cable tie will prob fix it,lol

    They should last years tbh

    They CV joint itself is removed and the gaiter fixed over the shaft and the joint put back on. The gaiter is usually secured with some metal clamp things that are one use only, but they are notoriously difficult to obtain a good seal from by hand( in my experience) Cable ties are easier to use, but they get brittle with age, cannot win!!

    I had this too on my A4 and the garage that did them replaced them FOC... they did use cable ties though which turned out to be more than useless and contrary to Marks experience with them (soz bud) I have had no issues with correctly applied metal clips... just seems that no one is able to fit them properly... except for me and Bill.... and Mark ;P

    Most things 'should' outlast 12 months...
    However, we have rejected warrenty claims before on excessive milage etc.
    Also, brakes and wipers etc which can easily wear out a lot quicker.

    If they didnt fit the thrust washer and retaining ring, it can easily split the boot too. Take it back and kick up a fuss ;)

    they probally didn`t get the clip tight enough I used pincers on my 1st one and that came off then got the right tool for doing the clips and it rock solid now.

    Tie wraps didn`t work on mine, Ive used tie wraps on other cars but they just wouldn`t hold on the S3

    Also did they use a genuine audi boot or one of those quick one that you stick together ??? The audi kit is about £27 for boot, clips , grease, bolt and some clips for the cv joint and i`d never use anything else its worth every penny
