I know this has been done a million times...and yes...i have tried searching for the same........... just picked the splitter up from Seat

Can someone give me a quick run down of how to fit...i have read that some have chopped it down (which i dont want to do if i dont need to), then some have used silicone to seal the edges...... heat guns to mould the outer edges..... and one person used 2...yes 2 self tappers to fix...which seems like very minimal stuff considering the size of it.......

A nice easy step by step if anyone has fitted one of these please:icon_thumright:

Depends on how its fitted, I see some that are set right back and dont follow the bumper round, mines quite far forward and follows the bumper around (didnt need to heat it up or anything

Get the car up on axle stands mate (or bumper off), and hold it underneath till you work out where you want it

Then you will see some ofthe tabs on the underside are ripe for a few holes, so work out a nice medium (think I have 8-10 screws holding mine on)

You will need to trim the edges of the splitter, and also the bit in the middle that has two sticking up bits, otherwise it will look like a bannana!

Id go takesome pictures of mine but it keeps trying to rain here and Im halfway thru polishing!

its really easy i did mine the other day. get your car up on stand and use duck tape to hold it in place were you wont it mines more to the front like grathies says hes is. i cut the two middle clips down and cut the ends off the smaller ones then you need to cut the sides of the splitter off as it is to long. then use self tap screws to fix but use washers in the middle two. it was about an hour to fit mine.

Get yourself a decent razor blade mate, get it all tapped into the bumper, then you can see what part of the outer edges need trimmng

Ill look out some frontal shots of the car for you mate

sorry pal no pics. dont worry its not that bad i was thinking wot your thinking now but its not that bad honest. just take your time with the sides the rest is easy. its about 3 and a haif inches you need to cut off the side but you cant just cut it off square or it will look **** you got to cut it to the angal of the bumper underneth. if you tape it up like i said you will see its not that bad.

As said, trim off all the high tabs as they wont allow it to sit flat.
then tape it in place with some masking tape (nothing stronger because of the paint!)
Then you can either drill holes and use some short nuts and bolts with washers or just use self tappers. I used bolts but they seemed a bit overkill to be honest
Then you need to heat up the sides of the splitter to work them to the contours of the bumper, if you dont do this you wont get it to sit tight against the bumper all the way along
Then when its all screwed in place you will have two small bits that over hang the bumper at the wheel arches, about 2 inches each side, cut these off with a junior hacksaw then scrape away the rough stuff where you cut with a stanley knife. You will see that the wheel arch lining splash guard things sit against the splitter so you dont see the edges that you have had to cut.

Job done, very easy mod, much easier with the bumper off as this only takes 10mins to remove anyway.
Just remember to get it centred and work from the centre point outwards when drilling/screwing or it will be pissed.

    Ash

cheers Ash, graths and everyone else..... see below my attempt, i had a spot of sunshine that needed taking advantage of

Let me know what you think, i didnt end up heating it up.... its sits very flat to the bumper as i spent a good 20 minutes at each end trimming with a stanley.... honest opinions pleeease

Hell...its only £21 to buy another if it looks *****:lmfao:

Honestly... think its sat just that little bit too far forward... That said whatever I think always gets gone against by everyone else mate

Are you happy with it? thats the main thing!

As you say, its not that expensive to get another one!

yeah i think i am....think that you shouldnt be able to see the lip on the top edge which is why you say its too far forward? ........and i think ive done the ends a lil different to everyone else.....cutting the splitter to meet with the arch that drops down

i prepped it by drilling a hole in every lip, about 14 in total... thought better to have too many, ended up using 10 self tappers about 8mm in length, securing where required....... firstly screwing up at the front then holding it up to see where the cutting is needed......undid, cut the ends, reattached and took off a bit more with the stanley whilst the ends were hanging.......

Looks good Tim, although I'd agree with Ryan, it is perhaps a LITTLE too far forwards.

I'm tempted to try one of these on my A3, but I dont really know if it would look right on the A3 bumper. It may look a little silly!

cheers for the comments, glad i asked your opinions....you know when you think something looks right enough to leave it but not perfect....:haudrauf:

Im gonna atttempt to tuck it in next chance i get...... although by how much? is it the fact it looks too far forward as a whole or the fact that you can see the join lip slightly.....think i could quite easily detach the middle section, hold it back and rescrew....

Ill think ill try this for 16.99, and Itll provide a good location for a camera, whilst hiding that drop piece at the back of the bumper

If you have the camera too far back, it will show part of the bumper along the top of the screen which is a bit annoying

It does partly hide the back part of the bumper that drops down, but I also painted that bit black as if yout stood back you can still see it and it looks even stranger when its half beind the splitter

yeah was looking at that thread the other day with the black gloss....when i get a decent day, im gonna wax it like i have my side pieces......they came up brilliantly with a coat of wax!! ....see what difference it makes.... if it still looks ****, then may go for colour coding and get the whole bumper resprayed the same (black wouldnt suit unless i had the sides sprayed too)

I meant the chrome grill mate ;) Not the lower grill surround

I found TCut to be awesome on my side bars, rear pannel and bumper grille surrounds

Na mate.... was a lil spell of sunshine that needed takin advantage of......... drove it up a hill to a level driveway which lifted it a lil more than normal.... predrilled the holes to make it easier to screw on. Good luck ....you will need to lay underneath to screw it on.... a neighbour held it in place for the first two screws and i managed to do the rest.
