Cross threaded rear suspension bolt hole help.

    Hi guys,

    As title suggests, I recently changed my rear dampers on my S3. Its seems that the passenger side bolt hole on the trailing arm has only got a couple of threads useable which the bolt just cant get a bite on.

    Would I be best buying a 2nd hand trailing arm off of ebay or will this repair kit do the job?

    My main question with the kit is the fact it states for M14x1.5 when the bottom bolt is M14x1.

    Thats the bolt im having diffs with. I must of read the type wrong. Do you think that kit would do the job?

    I've used plenty of helicoils, but usually for replacing knackered threads in aluminium and never on anything critical like that so wouldn't like to say, If drilling through and using a locking nut is an option, then I'd be happier with that I think.

    Just get a longer bolt and nut, you won't need to drill it.

    The only thing you need to worry about is making sure it's at least a 10.8 HT bolt (and nut) and you can always cut it down if it's too long.

    Cheers for the replies, i have ordered a couple of 100mm and 110mm bolts with some nylock nuts.

    Would you recommend using some loctite as a precaution?

    no need for loctite the nyloc nut will be fine

    HI Matt ,
    Just read your post . I had the same problem when fitting my B8's managed to cross thread the hole , resolved it to , by using
    the same bolt from the other side of the hole . Clean the threads up first with a thread file and plenty of squirt and it can be wound in
    from the back , go slow and draw the bolt in and out a few times . Giving you a clean thread to start again . All assuming the bolt is'nt too dammaged . Or could be done with a new bolt . Good luck

    You'll also need to whip the caliper and carrier off that side for better access , but it is do able :)
