Creaking New springs driving me mad

    Just had the rear springs of an eibach pro kit fitted with lemforder rear drop links with all new bolts to my TQS.
    Creaking like mad even when small movements and getting in car.
    Ride height looks the same as when old springs on.
    Springs fitted at Audi too.
    I'm turning heads not in a good way.

    Will this go? Settle? sounds bad.
    Will get it checked tomorrow, but would like your advice before I go to Audi.

    get yourself straight back to Audi, they must have done something wrong when installing eg not tightened bolts, because springs do not creak.

    What if shocks are worn and put extra strain on springs?
    thinking of putting these on REAR SHOCK ABSORBER 513VG0540
    any ideas?
    will be off to audi tomorrow the reason I fitted the eibach was because audi springs were on backorder.

    worn shocks wouldn't cause creaking. If it wasn't creaking when you took it in then surely it shouldn't be doing it now.

    The shocks you've listed are probably made by Sachs, so good quality and an OE supplier.

    The concave washer on the upper rear wishbone is probably fitted backwards.

    been back to Audi they said it was the springs, but when fitted I was told the top mounts were badly corroded.
    Tech said if removed again would need new top mounts as he would not be happy with fitting them again.
    I have taken wheels off and covered the spring with copper grease mainly at the bottom where the spring it touching the metal of the shock and this has greatly reduced the noise almost gone but for how long?
    Now do I buy new mounts & shocks as maybe the old snapped springs had worn the bottom plate of shock?
    So annoying as not done on the cheap I've used lemforder and eibach parts, might get an S3 and bin this?

    Can't be the springs that are causing the noise then if its almost gone with some grease being applied. The problem lies elsewhere.

    Tempting though it is to scrap this car, is it worth it considering what its going to cost to get into an S3.

    If you look at it rationally its going to cost about £400 max for 2 new rear shocks and 2 new top mounts. It'll cost more than that for an S3, and you might still have problems.

    So I'd keep the faith a little longer and try to find out exactly whats causing the problem.

    Can you post some pictures of the top mounts and shocks?

    if the top mounts are not rotating properly, I have to assume the twist is occuring on the bottom causing the creaks?.
    Other thing to get checked is that the grease monkey hasn't dogged the arm bolts up while the car was suspended, that can cause creaks too

    I've had enough today so will take wheels off tomorrow and take some pics and have a look again, new mounts are 75plus vat each and shocks from gsf will take up to £320 then fitting on top so I've already spent over £450 so the cost is adding up just to get 2 coils fixed.
    If i'm going with new shocks and mounts I think different springs too as I don't want to fit all that and still have the creaking as it is bad.

    Stick with the Eibach springs no point spending money on more springs just yet, plus I bet they are definately not the problem. I had them on my car and they didn't creak.

    Its got to be an assembly problem.

    Ok you guys hit the nail on the head, upper outer bolt torqued up too tight!
    Went to independent garage this morning they traced to upper wishbone like aragon said but would need to strip down, went there as i'm getting them to fit the front coils.
    So when I got home jacked up had a look at the wishbone washer looked ok? but undid the bolt a bit then did other side creaking gone.
    So too sight like byzan said.
    You could rock the car and it was really bad but now nothing test drove it and a slight noise now and then but great to drive and no one stares at me.
    going to order new bush bolts and washer, and get front done next lets hope that stays quiet.

    It SHOULD be tight, but if the washer is backwards, it binds on the control arm and creaks.

    The washer is dished/curved, and the dish should be positioned AWAY from the wishbone, so theres a gap. If you fit it backwards, theres no gap, and it rubs causing the creaking.

    To fix it, remove the nut, take the washer off and refit the other way round, jack suspension up until the hubs at its normal height, then tighten the nut up.

    Thanks Aragorn just to confirm it is still tight I just adjusted it a little bit, but the main thing is that 99% of creaking gone.
    Just time is a factor at the moment but will get it looked at when front springs fitted.

    Again thanks Aragorn, just jacked up to take pick but decided to undo nut and have a look a the washer.
    Couldn't tell how curved it was till I took it off, Yes was fitted the wrong way! same on other side too.
    Both the right way round now and silent, cant believe that little thing caused all that grief bloody audi.
    So Happy now, Thanks.

    good stuff, just to make sure, you tightened the nut with the hub jacked up to normal height? if you tighten it at full droop, the bush gets twisted and will fail sooner!
