Crashed my 2000 model S3 2 days ago and i'm devastated. Hoping they don't write it off, but they reckon it could be because the head lights and bumper are unique and very expensive.

Anyone know how much genuine head lights are? And new S3 bumpers?

i heard they wanted £200 per headlight or something?

hopefully they dont write it off mate. ive been there before and on my 1.8tq they tried to say it was £4200 to fix a bumper, 2 headlights grill and bonnet. they charge a fortune to respray most insurance repairers

maybe they will write it off and you can buy it back cheap and fix it yourself cheap enough with pre cherished parts. My sisters audi a4 had to have 2 doors and a hole that went from front to back caused by a dustbin lorry repaired, new bumper and exhaust and amazingly they didn't write that off! she's selling it for £3000 now so who knows how these companys minds work as it must have cost more than that to fix! she made them respray it 6 times too as she was not happy with the finish...

bare in mind mine was on an a3 not s3. so i guess with the headlamps at 660 and price of the bumper? no idea how much. it looks like ur could be at least 5000 ish. depends on the value of ur motor i guess

    That's a bummer!

If you decide to repair yourself, you can pick up brand new pattern headlights from eurocarparts for £116 each, and indicators for <£10.

Bumper should be easily available salvage.

    Cheers,

    hi mate,
hope ur okay, not nice to be involved in any accident. my brother's 1998 mk4 golf (worth all of £1250) was hit into the other week: causing damage which cost £1200 to repair! amazingly enough, the insurers decided to repair the vehicle as opposed to just paying him out. my understanding of the situation insurer-wise now is that the economy as it is, it's just better to repair... hope that's the stance they take with you. if they did the same for me a few years ago, my beloved H-reg CRX VTEC would've been saved :-@!!!

if you crash your car and you think its worth repairing by buying it back from the insurance company you may find they wont let you
A mate of mine slid on ice into a wall with his Rover 75 no major damage just needed bumper grill bonnet 1 headlight and paint the insurance company wrote it off they reckoned there was over £4k of damage and wouldn't let him buy it back so if it was me i would price up all the parts and get a quote for paint and not involve insurance company if possible

Crashed my A3 a couple months back, was devastated. I just lost grip at low speed on a bend in the wet, slid into a tree, probably hit at 10-15mph.

Needed a new radiator but other than that was running fine, only just now looking at getting it put right in terms of looks, needs new front panel so the bonnet will sit right and possibly a new bonnet as I think this one may be warped, not sure until I fit the new front panel, just picked one up last week from a scrappy.

Hope you get it sorted mate, if insurance write it off then buy it back as a track car project!

Sorry to hear asbout the crash and hope you ok. Some approved repairs for insurance companies are jokes with there estimates. One in my work today wanted £245 to spray and fit a new A2 bumper. PHA he must be having a laugh.
If the car driveable (cant see photos) get two estimated from two garages your happy to use. And send them to your insurance company.
Who you insured with out of interest?
As said some insurer dont give you the choice to buy the car back. But could buy it from salvage yard most use HBC and Copart.
Good luck and let us know how you get on

Edit: If your not at fault claim direct of the third party insurer they will be more flexible

I am sure they would just repair it, insurance spent about 3.5k repairing mine last year, its not just about paying you they would rather keep thier sub-contractors happy and create jobs for them, then you have to wait for a few months for a job that takes at most 1-3 days by the sound of it. but at the end as long as it's VW audi approved you would not notice the difference.

Cheers for all your comments and advice. It was a low speed crash, someone in front of me pulled out onto a roundabout, i went to follow they braked hard, i did'nt. Such a stupid crash and all my fault.

Got a phone call from engineer this morning, they are repairing thank god. New bumper, Grill, bonnet, 1 head light, 1 indicator, paint, and slam panel. Engineer said the border line for repair would have been £3600, but would not tell be the estimate.

I've got to say Aviva my insurance company that i changed to this year dealt with this brilliantly, as well as being the cheapest quote, they have dealt with this surprisingly quick.
Had the crash at 7am Wednesday, by 9:30am i had a loan car, and SOLUS had my car for repair quotation. By the Saturday the engineer had called me to tell me it will be repaired, and will be available to collect in approximately a week, but this will be confirmed on Tuesday.

    Glad to hear it buddy.
Someone hit my car whilst parked and did what looked like only damage to bumper, headlight brackets and maybe radiator but repair quote from insurance showed they replaced EVERYTHING slightly damaged (good for me) which totalled £5000! I was pretty lucky it wasn't wrote off.
Accidents are a ball ache but hopefully all will be well for you by next week!:icon_thumright:

I know how you feel, just crashed mine last night. Done both front quarters, bumper, headlights, bonnet and one front wheel hanging off. The car will run but the transmission seems to be jammed so will not drive. Absolutely gutted as it's a really rare colour and low miles too!

If it does get writen off I was told the other day gets sold back to you for 10 % or 20 % of write off value .. Not sure how accurate this is but my friend who owns a body shop ( contract with insurance companies ) told me ..
Mine had a new headlight from audi 2 years ago at the price of £596 Inc vat supply only :-0

the plasticy bumper can be very deceptive as its very deformable and returns to its original shape after a bump. quite often it doesnt look bad at all until you get the bumper off only to find the plastic front panel is all broken and the radiators shaped like a banana.

had a mk5 golf like this. she slid off the road in the snow and ran into a blue wheelie bin that was on its side about 10 mph (apparently).
if modern cars went so rubbish and padestrian safety focused....
theres no way hitting a wheelie bin should have caused so much damage. took out the aircon rad, coolant rad, broken the front panel in about 4 places, broke one of the horns, and the undertray.
apart from a scuff on the bumper and a coolant leak it looked fine from the outside.

  40. Very inaccurate: why would they offer it for 10%-20% to the original owner when they can sell it for 100% of the scrap value to one of the many trade disposals companies.
