    A for Audi (audi specialist).......258 pounds:rockwoot:

    Arnold Clark Volkswagen..........349 pounds:scared2:

    Glasgow Audi.........................295 pounds:wacko:

I'm completely shocked as I fully expected a VW dealer to be much cheaper than the Audi dealer, especially since they stated they wouldn't be able to reset the service indicator.

37 quid difference between audi and the small specialist, I might just go for the main dealer for the peace of mind and the free wash and vac etc.

not sure if they supply a courtesy car or not.

I actually laughed down the phone at the VW service person when they quoted the figure.

Anyway it's booked into VW next week for a service as I bought the two service and two MOT package from the dealer when I bought the car, so it's a freebie.

I'll book it in for it's timing belt in a month or so as it's only at 57k and as far as I know it's recommended at 60k.

Sorry if this sounds daft but... is timing belt another term used for cambelt? + why is it recommended to change the water pump at the same time too.

Yes, timing belt is same as cambelt.

Get the water pump done because it's a mechanical part that is in constant use, and as such will wear out and fail at some point. To replace the water pump requires exactly the same labour as a cambelt change ie. front of car off, radiator out, belt off etc, so it makes sense to do it at the same time. The cost of a new water pump is only about £30, and will only be an extra 5 minutes labour if done at the same time as the cambelt. To do a water pump change on it's own is a 2.5 hour labour charge.

Also, the B6 A4 has a plastic impellar water pump, so it will fail. Might be an idea to have it replaced with an improved metal mpellar pump, probably only cost another £10.
