As i only do short trips to work most of the year and change the oil every 4-6k miles im thinking of using 5w40 oil.

Is Castrol Edge Engine Oil 5W40 A3 B4 Fully Synthetic
    Meets or exceeds industry specifications SAE 5W-40,ACEA A3/B3,A3/B4, C3,API SN/CF,VW 502 00/ 505 00,BMW Longlife-04,MB-Approval 229.3kg1/ 229.51,Porsche A40,Renault RN0700/ RN0710,Meets Fiat 9.55535-S2,Dexos2*

Is this the correct oil to use????
I understand the 5w40 bit to do with cold start and running temp viscosity. But dont get the other stuff????

Probably just being thick but its worth asking im sure.

    Thanks in advance

Ah yeah, had been using Comma 5w30 longlife. But i was planning on trying 5w40 this time. Only do about 10 miles a day when back and forward to work and had been reading that the thicker 40 is better for short drives and oil change intervals. Plus i do like to give the car some stick once shes upto temperature. The oil appears to be breaking down quite quickly and its only done about 4.5k also there appears to be abit of chain or tensioner rattle (which im looking into and hoping is an oil problem/blockage).

So would i be better sticking to 5w30 or trying 5w40?
    If so is the 5w40 VW 502 00/ 505 00 correct???
    Thanks
