Can anyone tell me what engine components i will need to remove in order to change the 'core plugs' on my 98' 19tdi quattro avant.

At the very least it looks like i'll have to remove the engine mount.....

Any tips or tricks would be good!

If it's behind the engine bracket, then that's all you have to remove.

Make sure you get the new plug in square, and the recess is perfectly clean.
I'd use a medium grade emery cloth to clean up.

I forgot to ask - is the old plug leaking, or has it popped out completely?

    leaking....badly :-(

Can't see it as it's obscured by the bracket, but as fast as i top up the expansion tank, it pours out of the plug....

Remove the bracket to see further.

I usually remove them by drilling a hole, then pulling out with a long self-tapping screw, held with a pair of vise grips.

It's also possible to remove it by driving 1 corner in with a hammer and chisel, if space allows.
