    Hello to all,

I have been trying all the best CAI's on the market, and haven't found anything that really was spot on. From here, I used my engineering and rally mechanic's help to come up with something bespoke, a setup that gave us better performance and lower noise than the monster conical filters, such as the Evo MS.
Here our output, please post your own, so we can make this a clean and propositive discussion on how to get the best from our beasts!
    Cheers,
    AJ

im getting a nuespeed cai for 95 quid it has a cone filter to , bargain though and i hope it sounds like a twister...

yours looks a bit of a moster whats the drum at the top , i also heard carbonio intake wasnt very good gains is that what you have at the bottom ??

also make your picture smaller mate its massive and taking ages to load because of the file size ...

yea that is true what u have heard about carbonio. you will get a gain but it will be tiny, carbonio mainly aim for producing a good quality, well built design. they do look gorgeous but the filter isn't the best. DBilas, evoms and the BMC CDA are all worth a look, pipercross also do a good cold air induction kit. but i think the one that will be up and coming is the forge twin take, there is a massive thread about it on ASN

i have heard that K'n'N aren't that good as the filter contains oil which clog up the MAF but im not too sure about that because surely K'n'N have so much money and racing technology that they know what to do and how to make a filter that works.

I think with K&N you can opt for either dry or oiled, no problems so far with the Evoms on my car and I have grown to love the sound it makes, IMO the most ideal solution would be an Evoms type set up but with an enclosed filter so this one looks pretty good.

The 'thing' you see at the top is a BMC CDA venturi effect air filter.
The part in the lower right side is the Carbonio conveyor.
The upper bend, with MAF sensor, is genuine Evo Ms.

The modest gains given by the Carbonio's full solution are true, due to the fact that they use the original air box and ducting, just applying the conveyor and a better filter.

The Evo MS is noisy, yes, but also provides limitations in air when going fast on motorways, because it does not have a direct air feed. They have created a chamber, that, ultimately goes in atmospheric depression, and makes you loose power. The only air you get, is from half of the standard front side ducting.

The Forge CAI is much less effective than the EVO MS, tried.

We have them all, and tested them all.

Sorry for the large picture, I did not have the time to fiddle around.

so the carbonio conveyor you have, that doesn't house the filter, the filter you have is the 'thing' at the back which i take isn't the standard element as you say it is the venturi air filter, or can you request that to be in the CDA from BMC

Thats not good to hear

Im looking at Putting in Forge CAI very shortly.
When you say much less effective, is evo MS by FAR the best on the market? Then second is Forge? What did you find with the forge intake? any power readings?

Im going to install a CAI ; 76mm Downpipe (not whole exhaust),Stage 2 software.
Hoping that will give me the power im looking for!
    Any tips/advice? ;)

P.S your ride is awesome!!! well done bud. Wish I had your budget

No power readings for the moment, we are working on the remaps.
The EVO MS is the best power, bolt-on, CAI money can buy.
The Forge system (I do have a high reputation of Forge), did not give the same power of the EVO Ms.
All the CAI's have been tried on a valet S3 at Superchips, on their rolling road.
The CAI I built gives you the best of all worlds, and more power, whilst still beeing as silent as the standard parts.

For your power projects, my advice is, in the following order:
    - Autotech internal components for your fuel pump;
    - Full Milltek, resonated;
    - CAI (mate, try to replicate mine, can give you specs)
    - REVO remap 2+
    - DV.
I have installed a Forge Twincooler intercooler system but, there actually is no real need for it till you go to a bigger turbo compressor, or if you really drive dead hard in the hot, like me, here in Italy.
    Hope this helps

    Thanks for advice!
Im still new to the modding game, this is my first car I'm modding.still
trying to learn as much as possible
Unfortunately doing all those mods are out of my buget for now :ermm: . Gona try do the mods in 2 stages.

    Either I can go

CAI,Down-pipe,stage 2 software .. and leave the full zorts and HPFP for a much later time.

OR (now as per your suggestions)

CAI,Down-pipe,HPFP and leave the current stage 1 APR software on

only go stage 2 software MUCH later when I get the zorst.

    :wacko::confused:

the DV is way way down the line atm unfortunatly :( Parts are just to expenive here in SA with the exchage and shipping :(. dont you have an extra Fuel pump and DV lying around by any chance :p

Mate, I understand budget problems, don't worry. Unfortunnately I don't have anything useful lying around here...
My suggestion is to go by full steps:
    - If you but the exhaust, get the whole thing, not only a downpipe.
    - Then buy the Autotech pump internals.
    - Then buy a CAI
    - Then remap at REVO with stage 2 or 2+

Thank you mate, I also pinch myself to see if it's true at times!
Just a lot of experience in race cars got me to know what I want and how it works.

are you able to buy the BMC CDA but request the venturi filter to be inside, or do you have to do a bit of modifying?

No mate, the CDA itself is a venturi-effect filter, it is all inside the box, as you buy it.

o right, i always thought it was a plain filter, is the venturi filter much different than any normal filter like the K'n'N 57i

It is an idea mate, but they would be really expensive. I should have a look in to how much I spent in building it.
We could consider making a poll on this?!?:s3addict:
