The on off button which doubles up as the volume control does not always work properly on my 98 A4. More often than not a tweak of the volume knob to turn the volume down a level results in the speakers pumping out noise at full volume!

Is this a common problem? Is it easily fixed or do i need to rip it out and get a new one?

There is a fix, but unless your handy with soldering surfance mount components, it'll be a new one i'm afraid.

The problem you're experiencing is very common, and a fate destined for all early concert owners.

The only known fix is a new HU from Ebay.
