    Alright guys

What coilovers are you going for? I've got a budget of about £400.

links to them would be great

    Cheers Sam

I unashamaadely went for the budget option and got Damian to hook me up with a set of FK AK Street's.

I'm well aware they arent the best kit out there, and fully expect them to have a relatively short shelf life....... but for that kinda money (£200ish) - i'll have no cause for complaint.

I bought a set of FK Highports from DPM and the dampers are knocking really badly. I'm currently in the process of returning under warranty as i've only had them 4 months!

So, be ware when buying budget coilovers!

Pretty much. I'd go for BC coilovers, great quality, UK made and great customer sevice. The ride on them is close to stock on an s-line.

Does that mean its bad as the SLine springs make me think that my car is going to break its windscreen at times when going over bad roads.

Well if you've just got springs then I'm not surprised. I live in an area where the roads put the surface of the moon to shame and my suspension soaks it up fine.

I don't use coilovers; I have an SE running on Eibach 30 lowering springs and, for the moment, the original shocks. The ride is pretty good, arguably better that on the original springs. The problem with the crashy ride on S-Lines is very much down to the springs, in my opinion. So many people have reported an improved ride just from changing the springs to Eibach or similar. Personally, if I had a £200 budget, I'd spend it on good quality springs, and not low-cost coilovers.

I guess that comes down to what you actually want from the car though.

Personally, spending £200 on springs which wont noticeable change the look of the car seems like wasted money for me.

I've done the 'performance' suspension thing before on cars which I wanted to achieve the best possible performance from and wanted to take on track, but with the Audi - all i'm really looking for is the visual side of things. Its never gonna be a car I throw at corners or even contemplate taking near a track.

Different folk want different things though, so its purely personal choice :)

Pretty sure I remember seeing a few kits listed as "excluding Quattro models" - but as jdp says, fire Damian a message, he's the man who will know.

The rears will have a higher rate due to the weight of the rear diff and drive shafts, so yeh, slightly different springs but the layout is the same.

I'm after a setup too, aren't coilovers for those who want to go lower than a std lowering kit - i.e. more than an inch.

The ride quality is in the shocks as the springs just hold the weight no?

I thought a Bilstein b12 kit would lower an inch and give a quality ride and handling?

    What you think?

I could be wholly wrong tho! :D

    Have you Googled it etc?

I'm pretty sure they will although the rear springs will be stiffer than the ones for a fwd car.

The B12 kit is available in either a 30mm drop or a 50mm/40mm drop.

That's not a brand we do so you'll need to check fitment with TEIN themselves.

If I was you I would definitely save up for some decent coilovers like H&R or KW. I've run KW for 5 years in max drop without helper springs and never missed a beat. The car was literally an inch off the floor. So I can say yes they are pretty much great. The ride quality was also slightly worse than my s line.

BC Coilovers are very good quality. I had them when I had my Nissan. coat the coilover with copper grease and you should be fine. also they are not UK made. They are imported from Taiwan.
