i had this valve fail some time ago in the middle of town, its split, and i was stranded.
so i replaced the valve with the straigh brass fitting pictured below:

This is a popular mod with the BMW boys as far as im aware. i was reminded of it last night whilst reading a build thread on PH, so i took that pic today.

it is located on the firewall , next to your abs pump. Basically, it restricts the flow of fluid when bringing the clutch up, to sort of 'dampen' the clutch, hence the name 'clutch delay valve'.
in bypassing this you will notice a sharper response from your clutch, feels very good, alot more feel through the pedal.
Just putting the word out there for people to try it.

    over and out

So anyone else done this yet? Also would the clutch need bleeding afterwards?

^ Exactly what I was about to ask! Surely, by opening the circuit, you're introducing air? Not good in a hydraulic system, right?

I think it goes without saying you need to bleed the clutch after doing this mod...

The atmosphere isnt going to just start filling the fluid system.
id sprung a leak, fitted that, few pumps of the clutch and it returned, a short drive will say bye bye to any air

the part i fitted was a fluke just lying around. Il get thread sizes tho this weekend.

M10x1 is normal thread size for VAG hydraulic brake/clutch fittings iirc...

the joiner can be bought from any motorfactor, its a standard brake fitting thread and pitch :)

being the clutch you should be able to pump the clutch pedal half a dozen times and it will be fine

Karl top idea and 'another' on my to do list

Reckon I will definately do this when I've got my engine out as its something that could potentially go wrong and can't see any downsides to removing it :)

    Top work Karl

Ive wanted to post this because when the valve was removed to fix the leak, and before i knew what the hell it was, i expected the clutch to feel different and maybe feel a bit poo seeing as it was a quick fix with no bleeding. After using the car and being very inquisitive with the clutch it felt great.
thats when i discovered it wad a common mod amongst other makes. id asked a few lads to do it just to see if i was going mad and they havent done so yet. And the thread i was reading prompted me to do this.
As stacey said, it wont do any harm at all. Will prob take half an hour and cost a couple of quid (although i dont know where the part is from, it was in my dads tool box, very conveniently), and youl prob never have the issue of the valve bursting leaving you stranded somewere.

Also pedal is on floor, does it have to be pulled up to bleed?

if you completely drain the brake system the seal in the MC can flip and totally **** it up.

Persist tho. and of course it should be up. Dont forget to bleed the MC

Think they have done that. Ordering a new mc hopefully will sort my losing the clutch pedal over night problem but i reckon its gonna be the slave cylinder, although the leak is sorted lol
