Sounds more like the front suspension joints.

there are a few causes of clunks that garages very rarely can find, a lot of people start to change bits willy nilly in the hope if fixes it. The usual and most common ones are from research the lower front and upper rear arm ball joints, track rod ends, drop links, engine mount, gearbox mount, loose pads, antirollbar bushes. You can eliminate the drop links, anti roll bar bushes and pads quite easily with a good look and wiggle etc. My money would be on an arm ball joint although not easy to test, I had this issue last year and i just couldn't tell which it was. it was only when the balljoint was removed from the knuckle after drilling out the dreaded pinch bolt you could tell as you could move it realy easily and others where quite tight still.mine turned out to be top rear, good luck in finding it. i also believe that a cv joint when gone will make a constant clicking noise when driving in a circle on full lock

Someone else had a similar issue on here and it turned out to be the battery that wasn't secured and was sliding around - just something else to check I guess :)

it always starts like this, I can't see it being the brakes then.

  12. I have a similar issue but when setting off from standing but turning left, i was thinking one of the arms, as my car hasnt had any work on the suspension done in the near 100k its done im thinking changing the lot,

No problem, as I said something simple to look at which I know has caused a few issues :) Glad it's sorted mate.
