If you are about to change tyres and fit your summer tyres, take the opportunity to check the tyre wear before. You don't want to fit a worn tyre, it's more prone to punctures and aquaplaning. The legal limit is 1,6mm, but we strongly suggest that you change your tyres before that, the performances decreases with tyre wear. There are different techniques to measure tyre wear; tread wear indicators, sometimes you have a numerical tread wear indicator etc. or you just use a 20 pence piece

You should also be aware that abnormal wear may appear in some places even though the wear indicator isn't showing, such as asymmetric wear, wear in the centre/ at the edges of the tread, or spot wear.
