I have a 1.8T quattro 2000 70,000 miles, the last time i got it serviced i took down to my local audi dealer and oh yes they serviced it but they also took all my money!! So i thought this time i would service it myself!

So i changed the oil, oil filter, air filter and then when i got the plastic cover off to get to the spark plugs i was a bit bemused and stuck!!? Has anyone managed to change their spark plugs themelves? (As the last time i changed some spark plugs was on my pug 205 which had HT leads!!)

Is it worth trying to do them, i have the spark plug wrench? Anyone got any guidelines?!

Have a read of this and see how you feel about the task.

Just to add, where is says to tighten the plugs "hard".....don't. You need to tighten them, but don't hang off them. Torque setting is 30Nm. Also start screwing them in with an extension by hand, so you know they are in staright, then finish off with the rachet.

I changed the plugs on my S3 Saturday and it was pretty easy.

The only problem I came across was the rubber grommet was mising from the inside of my spark plug socket, so I placed a bit of insulating tape on the inside & over to the outside of the socket so that the plugs would come out.

Maybe I should buy some newer tools instead of doing an A-Team job on it .....

I fitted Bosch Super 4s to my S3 a few weeks ago and it was a nice easy job. Bought myself a long 10mm spark plug wrench from Halfords for £4.99 and it took probably 20 mins in total.

what's the product code of the super 4's? don't tend to trust halfords recommendations as they've been wrong before

what does he use the allen key for?

I fitted Denzo plugs a wile ago, they are cheap and work very well, check out carparts4less or eBay for good prices.

Sorry mate but Denso plugs suck monkey balls... They have a habit of dropping the ceramic off the plug which makes a bit of an expensive mess of your engine
