Hi all

Picked up my white A4 last week and gave it the first wash this weekend. Just autoglym pure shampoo a wash mitt and finished with aqua wax. I am having the car coated with cQuartz in January, is it worth it? Is washing after just a case of shampoo with no need to apply wax or anything again?

Cheers

There are a few CQuartz coatings.

https://carpro.uk.com/collections/cquartz-coatings/products/cquartzuk30

http://www.cquartz.co.uk/finest
and
http://cquartz.com/product/cquartz-finest/

The top one is the cheapest with the other two being more expensive. I had Finest put on my S4 when it was new and was very happy with it. In terms of maintenance normal shampoo will do the job. I supplemented this with a monthly wash using Carpro Reset shampoo:

https://carpro.uk.com/products/reset500

The coating does mostly just look after itself. If the beading drops off the Reset always brought it back. Periodically I would top up with Carpro Reload:

https://carpro.uk.com/products/reload-inorganic-spray-coating-500ml-2015-edition

However I found it's a pain on black and have now switched to Gyeon Cure instead mixed 1:1 with water.

CQuartz Finest lasted the advertised 2 years but I had my car recoated shortly after this as I had general wear and tear from my work's car park that needed polishing out anyway. For me I find it's worth the money to have a pro detailer applied coating. The cost is comparable to the (hopeless) dealer products with the difference being the coating is properly applied with the paintwork fully prepped first. On both occasions my car has spent 2 days with the detailer, one of the reasons being a ceramic coating really needs overnight in the dry to properly cure. I don't have a usable garage so DIY isn't an option for me.

Thanks for the information. I’m starting to think just using audotglym shampoo, super resin polish and HD wax every few months might be a better option for me. It’s a PCP car that I intend to eventually return so think I will just enjoy looking after every few weeks :)

Yep, really depends on your plans. I intend to keep this car for a good while so wanted to ensure I gave it a good start in life.

HD wax is a good, solid product. I still have it in my garage as it lasts for ages!

I'm sorry to bringing up the old thread. I ordered a new car a week ago and I'm going to have it coated with cQuartz shortly after collection. I read that most of you avoid automatic carwash. How fast automatic carwash can destroy the effect of the ceramic coating?

Never use an automatic car wash. Whether it’s coated or not.

Never use any automatic cars washes, or any other form of hand washing aside from your own. They will all quickly destroy the coating you've just spent hundreds of pounds on...

Wouldn't get 1 layer of Cquartz applied either, Gyeon Syncro MOHS Pro kit is the best on the market 3/4 layers the most durable system on the market £130 to buy for the detailer astounding finish nothing comes even close for gloss and durability

That was my main misconception as I thought that the coated paint would shine longer even if I used automatic car wash once a week. I need to change my car cleaning habits :)
