I remember someone buying one off ebay but unsure of costs or how it fitted. Bear in mind what you are buying; either it is a bonnet actually made of carbon fibre or a bonnet with carbon fibre effect on the top of it. Carbon Fibre can be expensive so £500+ would be the norm check out here for another. Other than that Google is your friend

True, but not if you cover it with paint.. just use it for functionality reasons rather than looks... but even still.. is it really worth 600 squids?

Frenchman on here has a carbon bonnet on his volcano black A3, and i actually really like it!

In low light conditions you cant see it's a different colour at all, and in the sun it looks pretty cool. The carbon weave looks very similar in shade to volcano black.

It's INCREDIBLY light, and cost just £280 on ebay, it uses all the original fixing points and catches, and the fit and finish is perfect!

Not my thing really, but it does look cool!

    Fair enough...
But that cuts both ways. You don't like the negative comments, don't post your thoughts on a public web-board.

Personally, if I ever fitted anything carbon, it would be for function...so I'm with Shy on this one...I'd have it painted.
To me...a bare carbon bonnet is a bit Chav-spec.

A carbon bonnet IS howver going to be a lot lighter...like half the weight...so a good saving.
    But on an overweight Audi?
I can understand in more on a stripped down Integra.

    Each to their own though...
If you do go for it Mo, I hope you find a decent quality one. There was a Company at GTI International this year selling them (not sure about for an A3) but my mate bought one for his Golf Rallye, and the quality is tip-top.
I could probably find out who the company is, if you want.

Those saying they're fitting one to a road car for weight saving are pretty much lying IMO....people fit them then don't take out the rear seats or sound proofing which obviously weigh a hell of a lot more than the difference between a carbon/metal bonnet.

MTM have one on their RS4 Clubsport, I think it looks gash personally although i'm sure it's an amazing car to drive.

    I hear you...
A carbon bonnet and a boot full of amps, speakers and a huge sub-box...not to mention glass windows, heavy wheels etc.

I can see the point if you have a fully stripped out car, perspex windows, carbon shelled seats, no carpets etc

Like that nutty mk1 or scirrocco that run a 10 sec 1/4mile at inters.

You get alot of people on the jap scene that just add bits to there cars for the look, that are designed for light weight or downforce. Like complete carbon front end, carbon splitters, lightweight wheels, then have Tv's PS2s stupid hydrolic boot installs.. its like you have lost the plot completly havnt you.

Not gunning your car Mo, just talking in general terms, im sure carbon bonnets are awesome but personally if i was going for the lightweight car as said before id do it properly with everything lightweight. wheels, fly, bottom end.. panels etc etc.

Let us know if you source one tho and compare the two, would be interesting to see.

Most "carbon" bonnets are heavier, as they are fibreglass underneath (all the ribbing and frame, often with metal tubes in so they dont flap about!) with a carbon top weave!

A total waste of cash, think how much Elizabeth Duke Jewellery you could get for Kylie with that!! LOL
