Cant get power down onto the road whats best thing to do, get 18's ??? :-/

    Push the pedal down more gently.....

    I have a 2.0TDI-170 running on 225/45 x 17 tyres and don't have any problems.

    Whiteline anti lift kit (or similar) and some decent mounts will help a lot

    Honestly if you are serious, and I mean this sincerely, spend a tiny percentage of the money you've spent on mods on some good driver training - the ultimate upgrade, best of all you get to take it from car to car.

    Modulate the throttle, I've seen plenty of people burn the extra power from remaps away in tyre smoke on track. Learn to feed in the power and you will be quicker.

    Imagine a piece of string between the wheel and the accelerator. As you unwind the steering lock you can apply more power. Hey presto, more power down, less power wasted. (Scrub this for quattro, just get on the power at the apex...!)

    Better tyres might help but again you can easily burn them up in no time with poor technique too.

    With the TDI power delivery and FWD it's difficult to get power down. Wheel diameter isn't really going to help in a straight line. Wider, yes, a little. The best thing would be tyres - semi slick type but they aren't great in standing water and wear. Grip is incredible though. You could also get it mapped more progressively but that might take away the fun!

    I would of thought removing movement in the engine mounts would result in less energy wasted on that particular movement which is then transferred to the wheels to make for even more power being put down?

    I have 19" bentley wheels. With 225/35/19 continnental sport 5 so not cheap tyres, people are telling me get smaller wheels wider tyres like a 9j rim 18" and drop the front more so get coilovers but unsure, if i rag it in second the dadh lights up with traction light and doesnt go away until third gear,

    dont want a lagging remap bo point of hybrid turbo if i have that done,

    Unsure of what to do wish i did buy quattro but to late to go back now lol

    whats everyone else doing to stop this mad traction loss im getting left buy TDI golf's running just remaps because im spinning lol

    Limited slip differential would be my advice, that and realise that the accelerator is not digital (on or off)

    will ruin all the everyday fun,

    need something plus im still on standard clutch lol waiting for that to die before i get injectors and forge intercooler

    LSD is going to be your best bet, will spin the wheels still but still pull hard.

    I stick by what I said earlier with driver training but 2 points from your selected quote above. It seems to me you are most interested in drag racing Golf TDIs, somewhat ironic as the A3 is often considered a Golf in drag.

    - Conti 5Ps might be expensive but they are far from the best. Try a set of Michelin Pilot Super Sports and feel the difference. As Rick says, semi slicks would be even better in this dry weather but they require real caution in the wet and cold.

    - Turn off the traction control, that is never going to help. The kind of power you are running will just confuse the system. And oh dear we are back where we started - modulating the throttle.

    I'll stop now as I care more about going around corners, I'm sure one of the Santa Pod regulars can give you better tips.

    I know how to drive lol and im not always racing unless im on private grounds wink wink, ill try some different tyres when these go low in tread

    Plus peak torque and bhp isnt until 2400rpm so its not like the remap is crazy

    even then u can limit how much boost and torque u actually have in first and second if u go with boost by gears, should help u get the car going then once ur well on ur way u can full boost from 3rd onwards

    Things to consider to improve traction.

    better tyres on lighter wheels
    coil overs
    Bushings
    anti roll bar
    engine mounts
    traction control off

    But I would top this to the list

    stop wasting power making your wheels spin

    and engine mounts whats best ones for my car ?
    same with bushes which ones ?

    ill stop wasting power lol one day ill make this torque touch the tarmac

    ARB's are not going to help in a drag race - they are for cornering. Softer compound tyres will make the most difference, along with wider wheels/tyres. The WALK will help reduce axle tramp when launching but everything else will be marginal.

    p.s. You are never too old to learn how to improve your driving!

    lighter wheels will reduce unsprung weight which in turn will allow the car to accelerate easier..... more wheelspin.

    Hmm, well I can get down 340 BHP on 2wd no problem by having a smooth map. It sounds like you need a less aggressive map tbh

    A less aggressive map might work yes, but I'd also try relaxing the nut behind the wheel first too. I think that may be wound too tight.

    Ill just try to be more gentle and will have map adjusted when i get intercooler fitted, also will be buying darkside developent 1287+ injectors so wonder what it will drive like after all that lol

    Good mounts will get rid of wheel hop/axle tramp for the most part, keeping the tyres in contact with the Tarmac.

    Maxxis ma-z1 are awesome :) hard wearing, good grip in wet and dry. Best tyre i've used
