can i just replace the sensor on the maf filter?

i think my maf is knackered. i've been offered a compatible sensor for my maf, i guess this is the main part of the complete unit but is it the only part that fails?
is the rest of it just a tube and mesh or is there parts that can also fail on this too?

In theory the mesh could get damaged I suppose, but yes you can just swap the sensor. Check what the bolts are that hold it in. Ive seen some reasonably normal ones and some odd security 5 star torx which were a pain to find.

Before you buy check with vag because they do a reasonable priced replacement these days. Many of the alternatives are a very different design and are less sensitive leading to poorer response (but better fuel economy)
