Personally I wouldn't touch anything off eBay. The cam chain is very important, I'd only use Audi mate. Sorry, probably not what you want to hear!

Just out of interest why do you need a new one?

Yeh there just so exspensive, ill have to ring audi up tommoz and get one ordered :sob:

im changing it as i can here a metalic sort of noise when reving between 2k - 3k coming from that side of engine. it could just be one of the runners is worn, but i don't want to do all the work and find out its not cured. i will also be changing the chain as well as ive got to change the cam belt as there is a funny noise coming from down there some were aswell

please see my other thread regarding that:

I got one from the US, via eBay, but a private deal, for my AMK last year. Cost me £125 delivered, instead of the £300 odd Audi wanted! Done ~5k miles so far and all is hunky-dorey. I think Tufty did the same and his motor is running slightly more power than mine. The non VVT ones are a lot cheaper both from Audi and from the US.

    Cheers,

I bought a vvt from ebay for about £150 with all the gaskets and was perfectly fine. Ran it for about 6k and was fine until my cambelt snapped and the electronic part blew for some reason. If it wasnt for my cambelt snapping i would say i would still be running it.

Tuffty is also using a non-OE one currently with no problems as far as I know.

For the VVT ones, it's worth it for the cost saving, for the non VVT ones, I'd stick with genuine.

    Hy Guys,
I know its been a while, just rebuilding my motor and have timed the cams/chain. The bottom of the chain is loose around the lower tensioner and I cant remember if there was a spring on the bottom to provide tensioning like the later BAM style units?
Should there be slack until the oil pressure builds? Motor not in the car yet so cant try that
