HI my car went into Audi for emission recall no problems found...Audi reported my cam-belt and pump due for change car has done 71,000 according to Audi its 120.000 or 5 years mines should have been done 2016..got quote £599.00 fixed with free mot for life 2 yrs warranty is this worth it..did some ringing around other dealers higher price..phoned Halfords £430 1 yrs warranty but not sure if they would put it back correctly ...difference is £196 but go cheap get headache..or good indie..also Audi says my brake fluid requires changing?

I'd happily pay Audi £599 over Halfords. Do you have any VAG Specialists near by? The last time I needed cam belt and pump it was circa £450 from memory. This was genuine parts but only a 1 year warranty and no life-time MOTs.

Couldn't pay me to use Halfords, especially on such a vital part! Either get Audi to do it or a good independent. As for brake fluid, it should be done every 2 years also.

Hi I got it booked into Audi to do like you said its too important of a job for halfords to do and if its not done right be a pain..where as Audi have to get it right...How much would it cost to have brake fluid done?

I mentioned about the recall IE emissions update gave them a small list of issues..like it being slightly hesitant. overtaking not as quick..fuel consumption and it being slightly noisy. of course got the Audi vid saying there was nothing wrong..However we all know what are cars drive like and feel..mines feels to have better throttle response. its quieter and the fuel economy has changed for the better very strange.. Have they done a covert update and not said anything? Anybody else experienced this.

Hi just a quick one when Audi strip my cam belt out and water pump do they check the pump for any wear. if no wear will they put it back or just replace because they can.. and I`m also going to request they return the pump they take off..reason why I had a 320d that went down on me was told it was fuel pump £280 squids later. only to find out it was the high pressure fuel pump when I asked for the original pump I was told oh we`ve thrown it away..Will the pump be OK or not?

Even if it looks ok you can't really check so for piece of mind just get it replaced. If you decide not to and need to replace the pump at a later stage then the cam belt will need to come back off - in this situation I wouldn't refit the same cam belt. To save hassle and ££ do it all now.

Request to have the old parts back but what are you going to do with it...

Good practice to replace the water pump. Most "cam belt failures" are actually a failure of other items on the belt circuit e.g. tensioner, water pump etc.

I'm getting both belt and the pump changed..at Audi what I'm trying to say is that I got ripped by a garage that charged me to replace a part that was fine...not saying Audi would pull my pants down but if I have the old part it means they have replaced it..
