Has anyone needed to get one of these changed on their 1.8T?
After having my Cambelt changed last week, my mechanic has told me of a small oil leak coming from the Rocker cover gasket, it's nothing to worry about he says, but since the part is like £17, and it's free for me to get it done, I might aswell.
It's leaking at the side where the cambelt is by the way, so you wouldn't notice it, unless the camcover was taken off!

I was told i need to get a new one for my A3 1.8 Sport at the last service (back in january). John Ashley (VW) wanted £220 to fit it for me

When I change the cambelt, i'll get it done at the same time. Need some money first though...just bought a house and made the mistake of proposing to my gf :asskicking:

Can you let me know how long it takes so I can figure out how much it should REALLY cost me?

£220? LOL! The part costs something like £17 from a motorfactor or 20+vat from Audi, they want 200 notes to fit the thing?!

If I have my camera handy, I'll do a step by step guide, I know the coilpacks need removing and various engine covers, not sure if the inlet pipe needs to be disturbed though, but even that is 2 jubilee clips and 2 bolts.

I really should look on here more often... mine was changed a few months ago by APS as it was leaking a very small amount of oil, was cheap (can't remember how much) to do and didn't take them long.

    Cheers thats looks very helpful!!:respekt:

Couple of questions: cant see where you put the coil packs, did u take take them out completley? or they hanging on the side?

The sealant you mention? any particular type? How many transition points are there? only on one side?

coil packs out completely...They are push fit

No need to take spark plugs out

sealant is a silicone based one or gasket sealant sealant from halfords

It's a bit more complex on an S3, need to undo the charge pipe, and on my APY engine, the coilpacks are screwed down, so you need to remove other little bits and bobs to get to these.

Of course, I was just informing S3 owners the job in hand is a bit more complex, I didn't have my camera on me whilst doing mine, so many thanks for the writeup and pics. :icon_thumright:

I would think that the instant gasket goes on the mating surfaces or on just one mating surface.
