Rightio guys, after much deliberation about what I want to do with my car, sell it, keep it etc, ive decided to keep it, but a TDi as a second car, and tune the backside out of the S4, with some help from my motorsport tech buddy!
    Planned is.....

    RS4 brakes.
    H&R Springs and ARB's
    Avus 18's
    KO4's
    Autospeed 3" downpipes.
    RS4 MAF
    AWE SMIC's
    Forge pistons
    RS4 buckets
    RS4 dual mass clutch
New car smell magic tree (Feu d'orange preferred)!
    Reinforced pants

Basically, how are these things to live with?
    How do you insure them?
    Would you do anything different?
Is it worth the hellish cost?

My mate will be doing all the work, he's earnt his wings building 13 sec's Polo's! Ill pay him per hour, and buy all the bits over the next few months.

    Cheers! !

I'll be at Awesome on Saturday with mine. Reckon i'm running about 400bhp on an MRC map.

    I have K04's, 660cc injectors, 044 pump, RS4 i/c's, RS4 airbox/MAF/Y-Pipe, APR Bi-pipe, Milltek exhaust, RS4 decatted dp's, RS6+/RS4 brakes, Koni coilovers, H&R arbs and RS4 Recaros.

My paintwork looks like hammerite compared to yours though, so we can talk about exchanging V5's on the day
    :)

just won't be right without the Magic Tree, suggest you by 2 for that extra performance :arco:

That sounds like some motor when it's done, remember going in a standard s4 when they came out and i was mighty impressed with that.

I had a magic tree (New Car smell) in mine a while back, but hadn't had one for years and didn't know that you need to keep it covered in the packet.

Took the whole thing out and was overpowered by the fragrance of 1000 new cars crammed in to a B5 cabin. It's not easy controlling 400bhp whilst choking with tears streaming down your face!

When I was speaking to the guys there last week, they had completed a KO4 conversion, and said it made your eyes go funny when you booted it! I want me some of that!

    >RS4 brakes.
Don't bother with RS4 B5 brakes unless you get them for a song. They
are better than stock but not by much and weigh a ton. Best bang for
    buck is B7 RS4.

    >H&R Springs and ARB's
Just get coilovers. For ARBs, if you get a thicker rear bar make sure you get
reinforcement brackets otherwise there is a good chance you will crack
    your subframe.

    >Avus 18's
    >KO4's
Plain K04s ? If I was doing this again I would get RS6's or hybrids. You can
buy RS6 cores for about 900GBP (pair) from audspeed on ebay.com. If you
can a used pair of K04s that need rebuilding this might be a cost effective
way. If you go RS6s you will need rods - Pauter or Arrow. You will also
need new turbo inlets as the K03 ones don't fit.
    >Autospeed 3" downpipes.
Fine. Which exhaust? Also, speak to MRC about their RS Fabrications
    exhausts and downpipes

    >RS4 MAF
You'll need an RS4 airbox lid and accordion hose to use this.
    >AWE SMIC's
Get ER intercoolers instead if you are definitely going for sidemounts.
If you aren't mechanically shy you can get all the parts for a frontmount
    from ebay for about 250GBP.
    >Forge pistons
I take it you mean DV's not actual pistons? stick with 710N's if I was you.
    >RS4 buckets
    >RS4 dual mass clutch
RS4 clutch is only 10% better than standard S4. Get a clutchmasters
clutch+fw combo or a SPEC non-SAC PP and billet flywheel. You
could also speak to MRC about the SACHS single mass kit they do.

You will also need injectors and a fuel pump.

Whilst the engine is out, get all the seals and mounts refreshed.

No problems. I hope to do some FATS runs and take some MAF readings before going on the rollers anyway as the RR figures will probably be way down on actual figures due to them only having one fan (and we've got two intercoolers).

Got a boost gauge arriving today. Perhaps you could give me a hand fitting it on Saturday??? :eyebrows:

Canna wait! As for the boost gauge, I had little to do with it, all credit goes to my mate Dan, who will be doing the conversion! His lecturer wrked for Cosworth, when they made the B5 RS4, so he's getting some useful info from him!

Blue thunder, I would love ride in yours at Awesome on saturday too, I've never been in a KO4'd S4 and really wanna experience what it'll feel like, persuade me to spend the money! Sadly my S4 will be staying at home, can't afford the 350 odd mile round trip this week, coming in my mates S3.

More on the subject, new car smell is the way forward, the blue tree matches my noggy blue and leather/blue suede interior a treat! However as I found out today, don't pick your nose after handling a new one!

S4 tuning is easy theses days. 500bhp be had from them just by bolting on parts... and then mapping.

Bit of a pointless statement. You could get 500bhp from an Austin Princess if you bolted on the right parts.

Does that include changing the vinyl roof though? I cant see a 500bhp Princess being 'that' quick with the aerodymanically inefficient roof! Would be real fun though!

So come on guys, what have YOU spent maxing out the S4?
    Im working on...
    KO4 hybrids - £1600
    Autospeed DP's £1000
    B7 RS4 brakes - £1500
    SMIC's - £1000
    Mapping - £500
    Wheels - £500
    Tyres - £600
    Clutch - £500
    Airbox, MAF, EGT's - £500
    Shocks - £500
    APR Bi-Pipe - £250 .
    Forged pistons - £ ???

This comes to about £8500 minus pistons & labour, which im getting at a mates rate, but will be steep with the amount of hours! But, having it built by someone who was trained by the guy who helped designed the B5 RS4 will be worth it IMO!

    Im getting scared, very scared!!

You need to include fueling in your list: fuel pump and injectors will add anything up to another £500. Get uprated ARBs too (~£300). Shortshift and DTS (~£400)

I have seen the RS4 brakes go on ebay for less than 800 as well.

If you're going for mega power, you'll want to start looking at compression dropping gaskets and proper manifolds. Also possibly worth looking into a water/meth kit to allow for more boost.

I've fitted phenolic spacers to keep the inlet manifold temp down, although the jury is still out on that one.

That car in the video is mine.. Just done another S4 another 400+ yellow S4. modding it to date. RS4 IC's with boost pipes and brackets £350, KO4's with less than 5k from new £ 300 each. RS4 down pipes gutted £200, All fitting pipes, gaskets, oil seals and new RS4 clutch £630 from vagparts. uprated fuel pump £100.

    can be done...

For K04's you will be alright with the standard pistons. It's the rods
that are the weak link, not the pistons.

Where are you getting your hybrids from at that price?
As Julian says, fuel pump and injectors are a must.
You can get a decent set of coilovers for 600
Who is going to map it for 500?
Are you keeping the standard exhaust manifolds? If not, it's about 900
for non-CC coated manifolds. You can get the standard ones ported and
TIG welded for a couple of hundred.

Looks pretty reasonable. You might want to have a contingency fund as well
as something is bound to bite you in the arse.
