Once the new arrival has settled in and starts sleeping soundly, so will you. :)

Had that idea but the A5 has more room in the back for the bride's dress etc. The A5 was also promised long before I ordered the S3 (or was even planning to order it).

I can't grumble really as from date of order to collection will only be just over 2.5 months - compared to those 'less fortunate' that are waiting a lot longer, my wait is a breeze.

Congratulations Pete! The Technology package looks amazing. I can only dream of having that, the extra cost was beyond me...

Pete the car looks fantastic, your wait is finally over but sadly not for your wife as I am sure you will not be able not to talk about your A3 for a while. Enjoy it and have fun

Was informed today by my lease company that my delivery date has been pushed back from 8th to 13th August so another extra 5 nights sleep and banging on about it to the wife. I have a funny feeling it may be pushed back further as when I asked a question like "is it at the dealers yet?" they could not give me answer. A fellow work friend is still waiting for his A3 which was due in May and still not received it.

    Fingers and toes crossed!!!!!

Hi Pete, Looks lovely, interesting that you got the dome on the ACC similar build time and mine is the flat type so that you can compare a nice picture of the front with a flat style ACC, wonder what difference it makes....

    Thanks Rich
Not my find but it appears that all S3s and A3s with the Drivers Assistance Pack get the domed version which is the Bosch Long-Range Radar Sensor (detects up to 250m) whereas all others get the flat version which is the Bosch Mid-Range Radar Sensor which detects up to 160m. Before MY15 if you specified the DA pack you got an ACC range from 0-124mph whereas that was dropped to 0-100mph for all ACC fitted cars since May 2014.

I uploaded the 2 documents to my Dropbox in case you're really interested!

https://www.dropbox.com/s/6lhyk3n0jklxlr0/Driver assistance systems - Long-Range Radar Sensor .pdf
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/fcj3ngucv3i3jxr/Driver assistance systems - Mid-Range Radar Sensor.pdf

No idea whether the extended range makes any difference at all though in real-world driving?

Other than the rain we had a great first journey to Cannock yesterday - the ACC is amazing isn't it and the Speed Sign Recognition is spooky - you get to road works and the 50mph limit sign is picked up by the DA camera and immediately displayed in the DIS. It got caught out by a few gantry speed limit signs (i.e. it didn't recognise them) but ALL roadside speed signs were picked up. 43.7mpg (from the DIS) for the whole 360 mile journey.

Cannock is an interesting place - they had so much trouble with local yobbos and their souped up cars racing around the roads that the Council took out a High Court Injunction to stop it.

I know I keep banging on about how good Audi Exeter are but this morning I had a delivery from M&S - a nice bottle of wine and chocolates sent from the dealership. A nice touch!

Just been informed by my fleet department that my car is ready...hooray!! I cheer...but sadly not as they cannot deliver until my current car lease runs out which is 9th September....oh ******s I shout!!.
Then an idea springs into my head. I have actually gone over my agreed contract mileage thus this must mean that the car is returned either if the lease length or the contract mileage is reached, which comes sooner. I have asked the question and await a reply...just desperate to drive the bloody thing as it's been to long a wait and excited as this is my first Audi....come on ARVAL be kind and do the right thing and deliver me the A3.

Ahh thats interesting then, so there is a physical sensor difference and by the looks of it the extra information collected is used with the cameras etc to build up the picture around the car. Have just read all of the details on the Bosch website the pdfs came from wonder if Audi network the devices as suggested or only in certain packages.

For example it suggests that ACC with radar and camera is able to be more intelligent and the suggestion that the headlight control (high beam assist) uses the same camera unit. So as I have ACC and high beam assist are they networked so the system uses both or would that only have happened if I had selected one of the other assistance packages.

It also makes sense of why you need to have the parking system plus with the rear view camera as Bosch talk about it as being a single package and needing the sensors to provide a level of depth perception to a heavily fish eyed camera.

My understanding is that the ACC is controlled only by the radar sensor at the front. High beam assist and Active Lane Assist and the Speed Limit Display are all controlled by the same camera on the windscreen. And Park Assist is controlled by the front and rear sensors and the additional 4 sensors on the sides of the car. The rear view camera is not necessary (and is not part of) Park Assist.

As for what level of integration is there I'm not sure at all!

In the past, if you specified ACC with some elements of the DA pack, you would get the camera mounted below the rear-view mirror mount (which would integrate with the single radar sensor).

This, in conjunction with the radar sensor (camera plus sensor) would give you a more intelligent level of ACC (this option is available on the A6), which would detect indicating cars in front of you pulling into your lane etc. It would also allow a higher top end speed limit to be set on the ACC on the A3.

However, this option combination is no longer available in conjunction with the higher top end speed limit on the A3 - reason unknown, I suspect that the A3 ACC is a fairly basic model, certainly when compared with other Audi's in the range, with 2 radar sensors etc.

It is this sentence that makes me think that the visual camera also can be involved in Pre-Sense Front braking unless its just not active.

"The initiation of full braking calls for superior object recognition and collision risk assessment capabilities. For this reason, the radar sensor is supplemented by an additional surround sensor, such as a video camera." with an image showing the camera and radar, page 4 of the link below.

I have ACC, but no other DA options, therefore no camera mounted under the rear view mirror.

I do have Pre Sense Front autonomous braking, and obviously this is done purely on the Radar Sensor, as I have no camera.

As stated above, in the past, the camera and radar sensor were linked on the A3, but not any more.

Hi Veeeight, my previous response was at the same time as you previous thread and so your comments werent reflected in my post. My point is that you can have front assist just with ACC radar but by adding a camera extra functions become available in terms of braking force, so is the HBA camera networked up since it exists.

This NCAP article explains the system for the A3 but not sure iif the HBA camera is the right sort and if it will be networked.

The only way to know for sure is to run VCDS measuring blocks on an early A3, where the camera and radar sensor were linked, and compare it with a late A3 where it appears not to utilise the camera.

Yes I think that despite Audi stating on their website:

Adaptive cruise control offers a relaxed and safe drive, even in heavy traffic

Adaptive cruise control or ACC uses 27 networked control sensors around your vehicle to detect vehicles in front. It then uses this information to maintain the required distance between vehicles. This is done almost constantly by automatically applying the brakes or accelerating.

it is possible that this may be from the earlier system when the radar and camera were linked? Else just where are these 27 networked control sensors?

I think the 27 sensors might be tings like steering angle, indicators, car angle sensor (knowing if its on a hill) maybe even rain sensor (since it knows to massage the brakes when its wet) think it suggested somewhere the fatigue sensor calculation was involved as well which is steering input related, so that it know braking distances and likely driver reaction.

Glospete, when you activate cruise how far round the speed dial do your red lights go? thought is that if the networked camera used to enable the higher speed on the ACC then it likely still will, and something I read on another country's spec was that lane assist increased the speed. Mine with high beam assist only goes to 100mph so I don't have that camera networked into the sensor I would assume.

Bugger!!! reply back from ARVAL is I have to wait for the contract lease to expire, so delivery date has been set for 9th September as my contract miles were changed by my fleet dept over 6 months ago. Would of been nice if they informed me.

Only 4 weeks to go. Can see these last few weeks feeling like months but I am more than sure that my patience will be more than rewarded once it's in my hands. Now shake a leg August and hurry along!!!!

All set now. Got the delivery date all confirmed now for Monday 8th of September. She is being delivered to my offices in West Midlands so I have a nice long return journey home of 135 miles to enjoy my first Audi experience plus another long journey the following date to Dorset and then a drive up to Manchester. A good few days to get really familiar with her and the S-tronic which is totally new to me and I must admit at little nervous as always had a manual (wife can only drive automatics so thought it would be of benefit to go s tronic as if I have one to many she can drive. Purely thinking of myself). so if anyone has any advice for a very novice s tronic driver it would be very much appreciated

The only niggle I have is that I have been given my new fuel card for the Audi from my lease company and she has been registered on a 14 plate which I know should not really matter as it is a company car but there is something nice about getting a new plate. I thought it would not bother me as I was hoping to get her well before 1st September but the lease company would not deliver until my current lease had finished. So feel a little short changed, I am sure I will get over it soon enough.

Really trying not to let it get to me but the more I try to ignore it the more it annoyed I feel. I mean they knew my current lease finishes on the 9th so therefore knew that the Audi had to be delivered a day or 2 either side of the 9th so why not get the dealer to register it after the bloody 1st Sept. I know it does not effect how the car drives or handles but there is defo something nice about getting a brand new reg.

Ah well still getting a peach of a car... Good bye GTD 12 years and 4 GTD's back to back they have been a loyal servant and never had any problems with any of them. Thank you VW and hello Audi, you got some big shoes to fill and high expectations to reach

My red triangles go to 100mph which I think is the maximum for any version now. AFAIK none go to the previous 124mph which was available for those cars fitted with DA.

Don't worry about it. Personally I think that 14 looks better (visually) than 64. I've never liked the aesthetic look of 6X registrations. But concentrate on the fact that you're getting a fantastic car. Mine is just over a week old and it is superb. The smoothness and quietness of the engine is amazing. There is plenty of advice re the S-Tronic box but you won't need advice as the box is smarter than any of us and with 7 gears is always in the correct one. Going downhill it will drop down a gear or two to give engine braking to hold the speed to that set on the ACC. I'm writing this on Tapatalk so can't see your signature and therefore the spec but if you have gone for ACC it is other worldly! Takes a while to trust it but it works! If you have Hold Assist then you'll never have to think about the parking brake ever again.

    Not long to go!

2 great things happened this week.

    1. My son got married yesterday and it was a fantastic day - thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.
    2. The V5C for my new S3 arrived in the post.

Just 2 more sleeps until collection on Monday.

Thanks Pete and don't worry, my other son is coming with us (as is my mother who is staying on for a week after yesterday's celebrations) and will be carrying the camera. Might be the evening before they appear as I'm visiting a detailer after lunch to see what needs 'fixing' (if anything) and to talk about paint protection etc.

Plus, I'll need to do some serious (but gentle) road testing to make sure all is well.

Beautiful car indeed. I considered glacier white for my s line, but I didn't want the 5 months wait and misano red was the only colour in stock with my exact spec, so misano it was. I took delivery on 1 August and went through all the excitement you describe. I particularly appreciate how Audi make the handover a bit special. I'm still thrilled with the car 2 weeks later. It isn't garaged and I keep having to take a little peep at it every so often on the drive.

Thanks Glospete. I hope you also made sure the West African pirates stayed away from GL. I wouldn't want them to be aboard and deck racing in my car. Actually apparently my car is in or close to East London, so what's going on there, it's supposed to be on a ship not in the UK??? .... OK so East London is a port in Eastern South Africa, the last stop before it reaches Western Australia, so I need to relax for a while - indeed I have to because its due date for Port Kembla keeps getting later (now 12/9/14), but who's anxious ......

Well you must feel that you've had your machine for ages, and by now it's old hat. And you haven't said what your wife is actually saying now either.

I must say however that your progressive report and photos on your dealer visit to pick up your new baby and subsequent experiences was excellent, and your photographic skills are first class, and enjoyable for me in my hour of need (make that about 900 plus hours of need until I'm likely to pick-up mine). Incidentally the skiing was great, with 8 days of sunshine in a row, and with good quality snow to boot - probably a record for me.

Not long now Gandv, Glorious Leader must be waiting to dock in East London SA at the moment, as it's doing loops.

So it only visiting one dock in South Africa, whereas the ship my car is on, visit 3 docks in South Africia.

I don't know why it isn't going straight in - and I want it to. ... Looking at the maps, East London is a very small dock (and it says it's only 150m long - our ships are 200m & 232m so I guess they stick out???). So probably some other vessel has snuck in and slowing GL up, which is the last thing I want, seeing GL keeps adding days to the schedule to reach Port Kembla.
And yes while yours (the Tirranna) as you say, does have 2 more ports than mine (Port Elizabeth, East London & Durban), they are very close and the schedule says the Tirranna's voyage is only 1 day more than for Glorious Leader?? Hopefully the Tirranna wont have to do loopy loops too. It's still 3 weeks until the ship's due to dock for me plus the inevitable lengthy wait with Patrick's auto Care handling and prep and then the dealer pre-delivery .... will it ever happen. Hopefully delivery to Canberra won't add any time for you, all our cars are trucked and considering it's only about 2 hours more on the truck for your direction, maybe you'll only be about 6 days behind me??????

I wished our car was on the Tirranna, it missed that boat, it made it on the Toscana which doesn't arrive in Port Kembla until 27th of September.

OOps, sorry about that. I was just looking at some of the recent posts now, to see who's on what, and I just noticed my mistake too. It really is strange the timing for cars. I noticed cosmos3 had a week 29 build date too and his sedan made it onto the Faust, which is in front of the Glorious Leader, yet yours (it was a sedan and week 29 wasn't it?) even misses GL & the Tirrana. Very stange. I guess it's 'at least' that the Toscana only takes 2 more days than GL's supposed 42, and doesn't go via USA & NZ and taking even longer (49) again.

Glad to hear that no broken bones were encountered whilst skiing and perhaps you even managed to NOT think about your car for a day or so (yeah right he says!).

Looks like GL is still off East London - hope it hasn't had a mechanical problem! I'm sure not and it'll be on its way soon.

My car has just over 800 miles on the clock now and I'm enjoying it immensely still. I had my first night drive on Wednesday and not only does the Interior Light pack look stunning but the Headlight Assist works well, coming up to full beam and then dipping automatically. My wife loves the car and is even trusting the ACC which if you knew my wife is a MAJOR achievement!

When I've done the first 1000 miles I'll do a running report (sorry, I don't mean to rub it in!).
