I know there's so much that you need to look out for when buying an S3.

I made a list of stuff to check over that helped when choosing my friend's car with him - We're picking it up later on today.

There's probably more that needs to be looked at, but thought that a good chunk of it would be useful to have written down in a checklist to take with us. There are other things such as listening out for knocking, getting under the car and checking condition, and so on and so forth..

But yeah this is what we took along:

I can add to your list.

Check alarm siren is working, it probably won't.

Check all wheel drive is functioning, if it spins up in first, it's not working.

You have mentioned stereo problems, this is pretty likely if it has Bose. Avoid having the Bose system if at all possible... It's cack.

Also check the over run water pump!
    Have fun

If people want to keep adding in stuff then I can edit it into the first thread and maybe have this up as a Sticky for any potential S3 buyer to refer to?

in fairness this is a checklist to take along which would be usefull, the buying guide is a good place to start for info on the S3 if your considering buying one and want to know more about them, this checklist will be good to take along on viewing as Routledge did for his mate.

I would add check xenons move and adjust when first turned on, although the S3 lights dont seem to move much but if someone is out side they will hear the motors.

    Check aircon blows cold

Check heated seats work if present

    Check seats adjust

Check glove box hinge inst broken.

Check spare wheel and tools are present

Check lower door trim/rub strips for rust

If car has FASH spend 5 mins on the phone to Audi and confirm service history.

Notchey gearbox - I find with mine its notchey when cold between 1st and 2nd but once warm the gear shift is fine, check its not notchey once warm.

Check springs arnt snapped or ARB collers broken

Check lower door trim/rub strips for rust + 100000000

    ^^^Expensive fix if its progressed.

Start it from cold and see how rattly it is on startup.

Should I mention the Xenons self adjusting when you first put them on?
