Stock market highs are the result of poor exchange rates surely.

As for employment (specialist subject) the numbers do not tell the full story, much more insecure low paid jobs, zero hours contracts and 'removing ' long term unemployed from data.

Zero hours contracts - that old chestnut. They now apply to just 2.5% (up from 2.4%) of the working population (ONS). 54% are women and 20% of the total are students in full time education. A sizable percentage is in the cyclical, tourist industry. Employment agencies claim that they often allow employers to keep people in employment during a business downturn instead of making them redundant. 66% of people on them are entirely happy with them as their flexibility (whether to work or not) cuts both ways.
