Break problem!

Hi all, I'm a newbie. Just bought my 2000 W reg A3 1.6 SE yesterday and generally very pleased with it.

But...
when I press the brake pedal, the break lights come on, then the next time I press the pedal the lights do not come on. I.E. my break lights only work every other time I put the breaks on, which is fairly worrying as I don't want someone crashing into the back of me!

I have a feeling it is the break switch down by the pedal but was wondering if anyone had any experiences of these going wrong or of changing them.

Spelling problem!

How come you can spell brake correctly when talking about the pedal but not the lights ?

Yep I'd say definately a switch, replaced this on three A3's/MkIV's before.

VAG-COM logging shows this problem up nicely, along with an error code.
