This has happened a few times now and ive crapped myself

but i had to stop quick the other day and its like my brakes failed i put my foot on the brakes hard and i heard like a slight scraping noise and the brake pedal was jerking under my foot not down solid , like the abs trying to kick in or something but my brakes just kinda failed when i was on snow it done it all the time its a bad and scary fault

most times the brakes are fine , when i slam on the brakes the car stops quick the brake pads are fine , do you think the brake fluid need's changing or there's a fault with the brake's ive had brake fade where they get hot it isnt that .....

im gona take it to audi and tell them but i got a little girl she's my no 1 prority she's an angel and i cant afford to have this problem ...please any advice is greatly appreciated ASAP.....

are you heavy on the brakes a lot? Could you have wrecked the fluid by boiling it? Did they feel kinda wooden?

I put it down to the abs over reacting to the force of my breaking

LMAO....Sorry mate, just sounded so funny. Not my top subject, but have you checked around for any leaks? A leak from the cylinder would cause problems like you have mentioned. If there isn't anything noticeably wrong and its been a while since the last service I would get the brake fluid flushed and replaced. The only thing left would be to get the abs checked out. Hope you get it sorted soon mate.

Not a brake expert but if it was my car I would....

1- Jack car up, osf wheel off, visual check on pads, check disks for scoring.
    2- Repeat above on nsf.
3- Jack car up, osr wheel off, visual check on pads, check disks for scoring.
    4- Repeat above on nsr.

The reason for checking the nsr and osr is that,(iirc) under hard braking and when carrying rear passengers(iirc), the car with shove more braking effort to the rear, via some brake bias set up, so maybe the problem in the rear and is only apparent under hard braking?

    then...

5- For the sake of good order, change the fluid DIY or get a a small reputable workshop to do it.

6- Lastly (but not least) get the ABS sensors checked (some one reliable), although you would expect to see a warning light on the dash to indicate an ABS failure.

Good luck, and spare the horses until its fixed.....sarky mofo:whistle2:

    cheers

i wasnt aqauplaining it was dry that the point i slammed on instead of the pedal going down firm on the pads it was kinda jerking under my foot but the car just kept going it was breaking a little but no where near what it should i had to swirve and missed a head on by cm ...i neerly poo pood ...aswell when i was snowing neerly everytime i pressed the pedal it done this may be abs is mashed its under warrentee so time to peck audi

the pads arnt scraping the discs arnt scored no abs light come on its weird....

although ive got the tire presure sensor that keeps telling me a tire is losing a bit of air i do keep filling it back up but if one wheel in slightly lower presure than the rest would this cause the abs to freek out cant do surely ...

thats the only thing i can think of or drain and refluid the breaks gona go to audi weekend and ask there advice ....thanks guys anyone else on here had the same thing

iirc the pressure sensors and the ABS are on the same circuit or use the same sensors?

Attemt to perform a contollEd run get you self a empty long straight but if rad get yOur self upto speed and then dive on the breaks.
I think you will have the same problem and I'm guessing you have never driven a car without abs even when doin emergency stops you are better
off regulating the breaking you self then lettingthe car do it.

As I said in post 3 I've had this and put it down to abs over reacting and I've nOt had it since as I adjusted my driving style to compensate

Remeber abs will attempt to stop you skidding that's it's job if it can't stop you skidding by very deffinition it will stop you breaking

the shaking juddering you feel on the break is the abs working by the way f that err goes away be worried

hope that helps and sorry for the typos I'm on the mobile :)

One more thing when you retry this in your controled enviroment watch how much speed you are losing even though it dos t feel like it

im not really clued up on brakes etc.. but ive been reading this thread, so heres my thoughts..

could the wheels, tyres have anything to do with it? tyre pressures? tracking?

    also the suspension?

also i heard, theres less traction when the tyres are cold? i know your problem is with the brakes, but tyres could have a major role in the car not stopping?

i doubt it would, but its just a thought on the situtation, i hope you get it sorted soon and the cars safe again for your little girl

If your ABS is coming on too readily check around the rings on the driveshafts. Dirt / grease from burst CV joint or even a cracked ring can cause the ABS to kick in too easy.

I've had the same thing in my s4. I was slowing down from speed to turn right, hit the brakes, and the pedal felt really hard under my foot, and didnt really slow me down. I came off the brakes, and put them on again and all felt normal. I dont no why it did it, and its only done it once. It defo wasnt brake fade as I've cooked my brakes many times, and it gives more of a spongy feeling. I have since had the brake fluid changed as a precaution and its never done it since.

Good luck finding out what the problem is mate.....I'l be intrested to know.

I've been having a problem like this but could never be able to describe it. Happens to me only when I'm going over a harsh bump whilst braking at the same time. Feels like the brakes have just broken but then I use them again and they're fine.

yes wai fan thats it when theres bumps and you slam on the brakes fail great isnt it ... youve cracked it i think , the problem that is because it only happened in the snow and the road i neerly crashed on was a bumpy road i wreckon alot of audis have this and its a fault with tha abs system .....

you will also get wooden feeling if you loose vaccum pressure too. My old 8L A3 got recalled for potential fracturing of the vaccum pipe...

This isn't a fault it's how abs feels when the system engages it feeds back throughthe pedal if your breaking on a bumpy road the pedal shudders to tell you that the system is engaging the system thinks that you have lost traction ie skidding so it starts to feather the pad
    as mentioned

THIS IS NOT A FAuLT it's how the system works some cars give no feedback some do Audi and most vags feedback BMW merc etc don't feedback just a warning light on the dash

If you are seriously concerned for your self your car your family take it to your local Audi dealer money is no object if the concern is real I'm all up for discussing faults issues etc but if you feel there is a potential risk to life I for one would be on the phone to my dealer before the engine was cold.
