my dis is giving a brake warning which stops after a few seconds. I've been told its a common fault and if the brakes needed attention the brake warning would stay on.

The brakes aren't of the best condition but do not need changing just yet. Also the warning is intermittant, sometimes they are a few days apart. The fluid level is fine and the brakes operate spot on.

    Anyone got coz suggestions?

its the sensor on the brake pads, if you are close to audis suggested wear limit ( which is a joke ) then is probably just about there or you have a dikky wire.
as long as your aware of the limit of your pads then simply chop the wires going into the pad, strip them back and join them together, this then will re-create the circuit and turn off the lamp on the dis, dont forget to do both sides.
i did this on mine, as have many on here, simple solution untill you relace the pads.

Its something to do with too low a voltage when you first start the car. i remember reading on another forum about a fix from audi. They installed a relay in the wireing somewhere. Im sure a google search will bring this up.

    Speak of the devil.....

Does it just give three beeps and then shut up? And is worse on cold mornings? If so it's probably the current drain on the battery causing an excessive voltage drop in the braking system. It's an early sign your battery is on the way out, it's a very early sign though and there's every chance it will last out the summer.

Yes. this is correct - it happened to mine recently, and it did become annoying so I got it fixed at an independent Audi specialist. The fix is a relay to be installed in the wiring. Cost was about £160.

There was nothing wrong with my brakes at all. :)
