I am thinking of installing a boost guage, wondered who has one, what makes and mechanical or elcetronic variety?
Any recommendations. Want to mathc to the s3 interios as much as possible, (facelift) not sure about mounting it, possibly a pillar mount pod, but these can looka bit chavvy! Any ideas?

i made my own pillar pod for my A3, as i thought stick on pillar pods looked pretty nasty, and wanted it to look as OEM as possible.

i got a pillar and headlinning from a crashed car, and fibreglassed this up and used the linning to carpet it!

its only a cheap gauge, but it does the job for now!

as for which gauge to go for, i wouldnt have a clue!

mine is a cheapy £30 ebay multicolour one, i onyl got the multicolour, as its red display looked like the best match for the audi gauges within my budget.

i know autometer do some lovely gauges that would match pretty well though!

raid hp gauges also match the color exactly.
if you buy mechanical, you have to run a pressure line from the T to the interior, if its electronic then you mount the sensor directly on the T and run wires to the interior. mechanical ones have hoses so slightly higher chance of leakage, but they are cheaper.

BTW prawn, excellent work, wish you were around to make a pod for my car! mine looks hideous (but works and is cheap :) )

    Have a look here http://www.optionimports.com/metersgauges.html

I had Defi gauges in my Supra, Boost, Exhaust Temp, Oil Press, Fuel Press, Volts.

They look the ********, but they are electronic, which IMO is a good thing, especially if its an oil pressure gauge, if it leaks you'd get an interior full of oil.

LOL, sorry was only talking about the boost. the oil press and temp gauges have electrical probes and wiring into the interior.

Defi is surely the best but lets talk about price...

Import them mate, you can always get them cheaper that way, I had to wait 6-8 weeks for a full stainless exhaust from japan but when it arrived it was worth it, I saved hundreds.

I quite fancy a boost guage in say 52mil then two slighly smaller guages like a voltmeter and an oil temp guage. Then make up a pod for the dash with boost in the middle and the two smaller ones either side, a la Focus ST, and mount it in the cenbtre of the dash top angled to driver.!
Struggling to find some smaller guages though.

The good thing about adding gauges as you say is that they will look good, whereas the focus ones look cheap.

A neat ide on that focus though. But one in a pod on its own would look at bit fast and furious!

I'm using autometer carbon gauges, boost, mechanical oil pressure and there own air fuel ratio meter, all mounted in the centre vents, good gauges.

but defi are the way to go if your spending serious money on them

I've buolt mine into the vents in the centre took time but well worth it

Yeah I'm finishing them off this weekend and should be able to post some pics, really basic all i did was get some plastic waste pipe big enough to fit the gauges, remove the vents, make up a template to allow me to cut out the required hole by hand using a fret saw, paint the pipe then glue it in, repaint and fill any little bits (the paint matches exactly the original colour of the vents) then fit the gauges sounds easy LOL.
