I realise there's a lot of BMW haters on here, but I had a ride out in a new 535D lastnight, and MY GOD IT WAS SUPERB!!!! :)

For a diesel the performance is quite ridiculous (420 lb ft as standard?).

If they ever become affordable to me, I'd VERY happily own one ;)

That's the one, he bought it new in the summer (chappy from the gym).

    280+bhp, and 0-60 in the 6's LOL!!!

The last one that went up Santa Pod got a 14.1 ;)

its not about the bhp though, but it is bloody high for a diesel. The amount of torque the engine produces is mental - 413lb/ft !

Almost as much as my RS ! I'd hate to think what it would do remapped !

    Exactly.

And it has to be an auto apparently, as a manual box wouldn't last too long.

A friend of mine has one, he had an E46 M3 before and he loves it.

Cracking car for an oil burner.

I know the guy I bought my car off had been running a 535D for a while and he was similarly astonished by the power it put out. He'd taken it up to an indicated 170mph before shitting himself and backing off. He said this was on an incline and he didn't feel the limiter either.

Way way out of my price range, for the next 10 years or so anyway.

Aye, different companies shine at different things I guess.

    BMW don't make a twin-turbo'd 4x4 family estate car for example :)

The 2 1/2 ton Toureg that this thing powers will hit 60 in 6.8, in an A4 sized car it'd probably tear the front half of the car forward of the a pillars off and disappear down the road with it

My boss is picking one of those up next week from Parklane BMW.

It was a cancellation so he got a really good deal on it, hes paying 29k tax free BUT whoever placed the original order didnt upgrade the wheels so its coming with the stock 17"'s.

Ive been ripping the piss out of him for a month cos I think my GTI can beat it, theres a crate riding on the result, even if he does beat me Ive got bigger wheels so yaa boo to him!

My sister has the same car as you, and unless yours is seriously modded/remapped, I can safely say that he'll pull away with relative ease ;)

Be an interesting spectacle to see though :)

my brother has a new 535d. Nice guy let me take it for a drive. Its fast! Very fast, I got a 2.0 TDI so this is quite a power increase. Its not that economical doing about 28mpg in town and 35 on the motorway but not bad for 280 ish bhp. Expensive car tho, really nice, looks good in black saloon with xenons and M body kit plus 19 inch rims.
