Badger - How much for the Jetex and do you supply heat shields if they're recommended?
How do the Audi S3 8P's guys get this flutter sound from their DV?? .............
Or get the best of both worlds and drill your airbox like I have... Not massive holes just subtle small ones away from the engine towards the cold air feed BELOW the filter... Must admit I did it to hear the DV more and was will to sacrifice performance loss but I haven't noticed any loss even in the summer. (honestly!) Running a green panel in there to, you certainly hear it sucking before 2k which you didn't before but maybe that's the holes emphasing the noise. I think it holds boost slightly longer and acceleration is still snappy as before... Each to their own, yes I'm well aware it's letting hot air in also but obv not as much as a open cone ... when I touch the airbox after a run (without the holes) it was pretty dam warm so chances are it's letting in hot air in anyhow...
i have a few small holes also as after taking the fins out as i wanted drainage..... it defo does create more noise, not so much annoying either, its a nice subtle sucking noise (is there a better noise )
No there isn't subtle but nice - notice any performance loss? Yes I smoothed my airbox to. Recently I took the 'trumpet' plastic thing after the MAF off to. Can't say I've noticed anything after that to be honest...

i think thats something nobodies managed to master... a decent heatshield..... in my mind if you could mount a cone in the air box (dont ask me how if it was easy we'd all do it) and mount a decent CAI then you'd have the ideal set up...... although you've still got to question cone vs panel in that scenario too, theory suggests it would be better as Bill mentioned the air flow increases with the cone..... but then you may be choking the cone having it so isolated....

I bought that second hand BMC kit off Pistonheads for £80! It was used on his Golf for less than a year and in mint condition. It also came with the cold air feed pipe which is really strong and not one of these flimsy foil ones! All i need is a 3" silicone joiner which i've now ordered.
I'll update this topic with a vid once it's on and let you know how i get on with it. If i don't like it, i can always stick my airbox with green cotton panel filter back on. Gives me a chance to play with the airbox now as it's off!

Jetex one is cheaper and generally more available than Green, who's stocking is a bit erratic
I use giant 300mm Green filter on my ibiza, 100mm intake on it, but it does run 600bhp - lol
the FR08001 is good for 400 ponies so pretty good for £52
after all this you bought a known restrictive filter
lol Sorry Bill! I'm not here to insult your intelligence. The only reason why i didn't buy one before as it costs over £200 and seeing this was a good buy to me. Like i mentioned before, if i don't like it i can always revert to another option ie. cone filter! Got the BMC for a good price so i could still sell it on if i wanted to.

log before and after airflows and post em up..
15g/s gained remember on the S3 I removed the BMC from. - to put into perspective... I got the same gain in airflow from just replacing the BMc with a JR filter than the owner did from fitting his hybrid K04... £52 vs £650 for same gain.

Well my cones been on for a few days and its alright to be honest. Car seems to feel better at higher revs than before but that could be placebo effect
Still, its not any slower so thats all that matters.
Anyone local that fancies helping me out with some logs?
would be interesting to see if there are any effects postivie or negative in the summer and not in the nice cold weather right now.
I know someone with vag-com in my area so i'll try to get some logs here and there. Fair enough people say bmc's are no good but i'm willing to give this a go. It'll be good to see what it's like in these low temps we have now and then what happens when summer temps arrive.

I had one on my Clio for a week. Sold it asap. Also had a few others like Viper filters, all costing less than advertised prices so never spent too much and made sure I wasn't out of pocket.
When I had my Leon Cupra R a few years ago, I tried a BMC CDA and tbh it was rubbish! Airflow was quite a bit down on the standard paper filter and also felt slower on the road. I settled on a Dynatwist and that was definately a lot better than the BMC and also the standard filter.
So for my A3 1.8t is it worth getting a jr filter etc?..mine has been remapped and has all turbo silicone hoses and forge dv.
