Got this in my inbox this morning:.

Superchips are delighted to announce the introduction of bluefin for the
Audi A3 2.0 TDi 170PS

bluefin allows YOU to install the Superchips remap into the car's ECU (Electronic Control Unit), resulting in:

• Increased power, smoother performance and better response (for example when overtaking)
• The potential for greater fuel economy, when driven carefully.

When programmed with a Superchips bluefin, these models will gain a maximum of 27 bhp and 77 Nm of torque (detailed power and torque curves can be viewed by clicking here).

On these vehicles the bluefin device also has the facility to read and clear diagnostic fault codes and to be used as an immobiliser.

The bluefin process is fully reversible and no mechanical or technical knowledge is required.

We're confident that you'll be impressed with bluefin and offer a comprehensive Customer Service Guarantee:

• A no-quibble refund within seven days if not completely satisfied (your statutory rights are not affected)
• A lifetime guarantee for your bluefin and Superchip remap
You should inform your insurer of any modifications to your vehicle; to ease any concerns, we have a well-established scheme with members of the General Insurance Standards Council.

The recommended retail price is £499 including UK carriage and VAT. Some regional variations may apply.

From what I've read, no, they shouldn't be able to tell as long as you revert to the original map.

No they wont. Most dealers dont seem to be too worried about remapped cars now aways. I've never had any issues iin the past.

When I tried out a tuning box on my A3 I had to call Audi assist out to get the bonnet open - no I'm no so lazy that I wouldn;t open it on own! The cable's in 2 parts and seperated under the bonnet.

When the Assist guy turned up we where chatting away and he commented on how well these things go chipped ( it was a 2.0Tdi) and asked if I was planning to. He actually helped me fit my tuning box and tisy up the cables etc.

I've ordered it, should be here tomorrow! Can't wait!

The guy I spoke to at Superchips said that it is fine for the DSG 'box and it does not affect the flash counter so the dealer cannot see that it has been re-mapped then reversed.

Oh and I got the 10% Audi Sport discount, So only costing me about £370 as I'm not paying VAT!

Woo Hoo, bring it on!

Their words, not mine. Maybe things have changed with the latest release? It is a new firmware on the unit for the 170.

I think its more likely that they are salesman and doing what salesman do best, stretching the truth.

Search function (using Bluefin) shows this has been a ongoing discussion issue for ages & the thread I highlighted was we actually tried to understand what they were doing when they were counteracting the flash count.

It seemed to take an age for them to actually get bluefin to that stage, cant imagine they've totally changed the software again.

If a dealer updates the ecu then it will increment the flash counter - your use of bluefin will put it to zero or a predefined figure which will probably be different to that the dealer leaves it at. Not saying the dealer will know that.

Mind you saying that bluefin is undetectable, given the technology it uses, is wrong.

A salesman being economical with the truth - whatever next!:whistle2:

OK, it arrived this morning and took around 1.5 hours to set up, most of this is spent waiting to get the new map back from Superchips. All in all a smooth process.

I have only managed to have a 10 mile test drive with the Bluefin installed this morning, and whereas it certainly feels more eager and there is undoubtedly more power, I haven't felt the wow factor I was hoping for. I don't think I have given it enough time yet to really evaluate it.

It is a bit snowy and damp this morning so lots of wheel spin in 1st and 2nd. Here is a small video taken on my phone.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEEz6gqRSAU

I've got a 300 mile round trip to Belgium tomorrow on Motorways and back roads so I will do an update when I have had a good old drive.

I am really pleased with the Bluefin on my S3 (2007) it is a totally different car. So much more responsive and faster through the gears. I am sure you too will notice this when you have a good dirve after warming it up properly. Mine got better after a good 200 miles of "spirited" driving.

You guy's with the 170bhp diesel be aware,Audi have a ECU re-call to reduce low down torque due them demolishing gearboxes and clutches Etc, so make sure you put it back to standard before you have a service.Dealer was telling me after my service at the weekend.

It's a shame a recal like that wasn't to uprate the clutch and gearbox rather than reduce the power to within "safe" limits by altering the ECU. But hey, we know which is cheaper for Audi, so that answers the question really.

I am supprised that this sort of thing has happened though, normally these items are "over engineered"

They usually are... mass produced cars. Race spec are engineered in the limit. So are we having an engineering mistake? would not surprise me...

Trick is not making or extracting lots of hp from an engine, trick is doing it with reliability!!

Here's the Update.

After a good 300 miles yesterday I am really pleased with the re-map.

For regular town driving in "D" (I'm a DSG boy) the power does not feel that much more usable. However switch to "S" or use the paddles as a manual and the car flies. In fact I would say that after the re-map the paddle shift is so much more usable than before. Before I didn't see the point in it other than a gimmick as the "S" function worked just as well.

On the motorway in "D" the car really pulls hard even at around 100mph without changing down a gear (I was in Germany at the time :sly:). So it's great for Motorway cruises.

All in all I'm really glad I went for it now, it seems to be getting better every time I use it and I also think that, like when you buy a new car, you need to get used to the power and the different way in which it is delivered to really make the most of it.

It wheel spins if you floor it in 1st and 2nd in the damp but then it did that anyway, I'm sure the quattro will make excellent use of the power.

Mmmmm, thanks for that Rob1210, glad to hear you had a good trip, now I just need to find someone who's tried it with a proper gearbox.......joke..........

I had a PD150 Golf chipped and it was so peaky with torque when the turbo spun up my wife refused to drive it, I got used to it but had to turn off traction control when exiting wet side roads for fear of the dreaded traction control cutting in & killing the throttle for me

I don't think you'll experience that problem, the power delivery is very smooth. For me, doing a lot of motorway miles, its the in gear acceleration which I am loving the most at the moment, especially in 3rd, 4th etc.

Also, in case anyone wasn't aware the Superchips warranty covers any items which Audi will not cover due to the remap.

Why not check it with VAG-COM.

Go to engine then click Advanced ID, the flash counter should be on 1 as per the flash when the car was build 2 if the car has been updated at the dealer. If its more then the bluefin triggers the counter or flash the car again with bluefin and see if the counter has gone up one.

VAG-COM cannot reverse the flash counter before anyone asks :(

The only feedback I can give now is that I love it! I can't imagine going back to stock now. Very impressive.

The only thing I noticed is that I installed the blufin at 5000 miles, then within 200 miles the low oil indicator came on (which seems quite odd for the 170 redaing some other threads) and then a hundred or so miles later the DPF indicator came on but then went away 10 minutes later.

Thanks rob1210, The PDF issue is the one I'm mainly concerned about, the clutch is a secondary issue, I remember my PD150 chipped Golf would slip the clutch slightly when changing from 5th to 6th at high revs so it was obviously near it's limit of torque
