    Any good?

Living where I do there's not a lot of choice within a reasonable distance unless anyone can suggest a decent 'tuner' in Cornwall

Bluefin is good but i havent tried many other softwares. Shark is well reknowned as is revo.

You can purchase the shark sts unit and have it sent out to you, From there on shark can create a remap for your vehicle similar to bluefin who are able to map your car completely remotely.

    Which engine do you have?

I haven't heard much about bluefin diesel remaps but for petrol (non S3 in particular) I've read mostly very good reviews. Mine is a 2.0TFSI and I'm very happy with my bluefin map.

Superchips are doing a 20% discount on bluefins at the moment so the remap and handheld switch/unit are currently £365 (£455 usually), so if you are going to buy then now is a good time.

I'm torn between Bluefin and Shark, however Bluefin is far cheaper £365 compared to £500 for Shark.

I want the handheld unit so I can remove the map if I want. I would be swayed to Shark if I could get two maps, power and economy, for the £500 price tag. I assume you just store the maps on your laptop.

Nice one CornRattle, I have a Bluefin unit with my old Gti map on it that I plan on changing to a S3 map shortly. I only have good things to say about Bluefin from my experience! Looking forward to hearing your review! It's such an easy device to use which is a bonus!!

    Enjoy!

Will be interested to hear what you think. I've only really heard about non S3 TFSI's with bluefin.
Is yours DSG?? If so, make sure they send you the correct remap. I was sent the manual map even though I selected 'auto' when filling out my details.
My car didn't run right until they sent me the remap for DSG cars.

Sorry bit late but demo tweaks are chucking in a free k&n panel filter with Bluefins and also at the 20% discount - might be of interest to others. Mine should come tomorrow !!

At the risk of sounding like a penny pincher lol! There are a few bluefin second hand units on eBay. I wouldn't go for one but whats to stop you, this is aimed at the guys who have bluefin already? Do you not get any after service? What's the sketch with it?

I run the Bluefin map on my S3 and also had one on my old 2.0T quattro.

I only drove my S3 once before remapping, so can't compare the Bluefin map to standard - but it seems really good; a blend of smooth driving manners and bigger power when you need it. The Bluefin map was developed around 4 years ago for the S3 and I looked at a lot of threads when buying. The long and short of it is that the Bluefin map went through some "refining" based on user experience on this forum and seems like a safe bet.

In general, Bluefin maps are slightly conservative...although the 310bhp / 290 lb.ft quoted for the S3 is competitive with the likes of Revo and Shark. The best thing for me was that it only cost me £167 to have the handheld unit re-programmed by Superchips when I changed cars last year - that's a lot cheaper than getting a different company's map. :)

When they apply a map to your ecu do they not save the original settings so you can revert back, not sure if they can be used on different cars

There is one for sale on eBay for an s3 already configured second hand just wondered if it was that simple or If there is more too it? I think I'm going to opt for the bluefin myself I like the idea of being able to switch.. And everyone says its smooth.. Would have happened this month had it not been for my trip to the bodyshop :-(

I thought the whole point is the current map is sent to them, so they know exactly what is currently on the car and what is suitable for it.

Its worth it but remember you will need to still play superchips for a new map. Its done custom to your ecu so you will probably have to pay them around 160ish

Ahhh ok makes sense so if you could get it mega cheap it's worth it of not then dont be a cheapo and get a new one.. The way it's worded on there is to buy and just install the map that's already on there if that makes sense

They do, mostly. But I guess it can't tell if it's DSG or manual, or maybe mine was an isolated case.
Superchips use an auto responder so as soon as you upload your stock map to their server you receive you remap back within seconds, any time of the day/night. Couldve just had a dodgy five minutes.

Also, to anyone getting their bluefin, if the bluefin hangs when connecting to their server from your pc then add an exception in your windows firewall for the bluefin desktop program.
Mine wouldn't complete the remap download until I did this.

Anyone compared blue fin with AMD Technik maps for a 2.0 TFSI?

I haven't, but the last time I was at AMD I overheard a conversation between one of the guys who works there and a customer who was grilling him about their remaps.
From what I could gather the AMD guy was saying that their remaps are considerably more conservative than the rest.
But then again some claim that bluefin is conservative too. I'm wondering if the bluefin on a quattro car feels that way because it has a lot more traction and can handle more power through the wheels.
My FWD wouldn't be able to handle a more aggressive map than the bluefin it has installed, because in 1st, 2nd and maybe even 3rd gear the car is already on its limits when it comes to front wheel traction. Any more aggressive and it would become undriveable when accelerating hard.

Or maybe I just need better tyres.

Interesting as AMD claim higher bhp and lb/ft than blue fin for a 2.0 TFSI ... (not that its all about raw power but the delivery 'curve' as well ...

OK - I was also told I had a locked ecu (MY11) so they could not apply the re-map using the normal connection method (they'd need to connect directly onto the pcb. Just spoke to Superchips and they had not heard of any A3's with locked ecu's so I'm not sure if I could apply a map through the blue fin handheld device - confused !!

I'm thinking of getting one of these in the Future. But I'm wondering if there was a way of getting the Maps your self. Insted of going to
    Bluefin.

Maybe there's a forum or a search engine out there for maps you can download for free.

You can get remaps off of the internet for next to nothing. And the good thing is... the money you save on the freebie remap you can put towards buying a new turbo after it blows your one.

Installed mine last night on my 1.8T so just drove to work this morning (30 miles). First impressions are that it is very well mannered, the flat spot pulling away in first has now gone which was a bug bear of mine. Loving the extra torque but had lots of traction control light as it was damp on the roads so will have more of a play in the next few days. I could certainly hear the turbo more when booting it which was nice

Just for ref claimed gains are +47 BHP and +98NM.

No idea how you guys with 300+ BHP keep the power down but would be great fun !!!!

Ok but i heard on some maps you have best of both worlds, better performance and fuel economy, would be interesting to know whether this does similar. As it not an aggressive map i would guess that it stays roughly the same or maybe slight improvement

Apparently it does take a little time for your car to adjust fully to the new map and things get better. I couldn't notice any improvement on mine though, but it could've been because you get used to the extra power pretty quickly and that offsets any gradual improvements, effectively cancelling each other out.

I haven't noticed any major improvement in MPG... maybe 10 miles extra per tank tops. But even if there was an improvement you'll probably find you eat it all up with the harder accelerating you do because of your remap excitement! The only way to really see if your MPG has improved is by pottering around for a tank or driving exactly how you did before the remap. But where's the fun in that! ;)
