Here's some pics of my BE (2.0TDi 170ps). Have had it since Sep 09, done 8k in it and am averaging 54mpg (mostly motorways). Sweet motor.:rockwoot:

    Hi all :hi:,

I haven't posted much on here recently, been admiring everyones cars. I thought it would be rude of me not to introduce the latest addition...

After 2 months of waiting she finally arrived, here are a couple pics of her (off the camera phone, sorry people), traded in the old girl :bye: for a younger model ......

As you may be able to see from the 2nd picture, yes they are front parking sensors, I didn't spec or pay for this it just turned up at the dealers with them, as well as the parallel parking assist, which is a great piece of kit... I suppose I ain't gonna complain when it comes for free and i've enjoyed demonstrating to all the peeps....:rockwoot:

The spec I went for is:

    • 2.0TDI 170 (Twin pipe FTW) Black Edition
    • S-Tronic
    • Interior light pack
    • Comfort pack - cruise control, auto lights/wipers & rear parking sensors
    • Folding mirrors
    • Heated front seats

      And as mentioned freebies -
    • Front parking sensors
    • Parallel park assist

Any ideas for initial mods to start off....

    I'm thinking:

    • Front & rear spacers
    • LED number plate bulbs
    • Ipod connection (had the audi cable in the last one but I'm after track names and more functionalities...

    All comments welcome....

    Paul

Collection of my BE is only 2 weeks away and I'm sorting out a collection day checklist - any help appreciated in determining what items should I be asking for on the day.... At the moment, I'm thinking:

-- Complimentary floor mats in back and front
    -- Full tank of petrol

    Anything else?

What should I be checking for on the car as I collect it? I want to be sure I'm checking for the right things and not drive a possibly defective / mis-built car. Again, any suggestions appreciated. Seems like an obvious question but want to make sure the dealer isn't slacking / pulling a fast one

    Cheers

Just make sure everything works i.e lights, wipers, controls etc, check under the bonnet to make sure all fluids are present. A full tank of fuel is a must as you've spent pot loads of money with them and they shouldnt quibble over the sake of an extra £30 odd quid.

My first demand would be that the keys are handed to me by the Hottest woman who works there. Ohhh, and she has to be naked :)

Just found out from the lease company that mine's due for build this week :sm4:

What kind of timeframe are people finding from build to delivery?

Thanks Dan. I hope it's also within 4 weeks for me as I'm off on holiday in around 6 weeks so it means I'll be able to go in a nice new car on company fuel!

How are you finding the BE btw? I'll be honest in saying I've had a few reservations as the last few cars I've had have been rwd and petrol. I love the look and spec of the A3 but didn't get chance to really drive the demo properly, and the one I had on a 3 day demo a couple of years back was pretty lacklustre, the steering in particular offering absolutely no feedback whatsoever. I hope I can gel with it, as I've got it for four years with it being a company car!

Yeah, I hope that it gets here in time for you!

I've been loving the car so far. Feels well built and sure footed on the road and the Quattro is awesome for getting the power down when coming out of corners. I came from a petrol too but the diesel torque is pretty addictive and I love the sound of the turbo spooling up. I'm pretty sad and occasionally turn down the music to listen to it! lol. Best bit about the engine is the mpg through, I've been using the engine up to 3,500 rpm on most gear shifts to break it in and still averaging 42.7 mpg.

I'm not going to lie to you and tell you the car you test drove was the only one that doesn't give good feedback throught the steering wheel as I think the servotronic system installed in Audis makes them all feel like that. A bit clinical but I still find it's really fun in the bends!

Hope this helps a bit! :)

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately mine's not Quattro (or 170 but hopefully can do something about that ;) )

Don't run it in too carefully - the piston rings need plenty of load in the first few hundred miles to help them bed in (we make them for Audi!)

    Dan!,

Just thought I'd ask, how have you found owning your Ibis? I have already got a nasty chip from all I can presume is a stone chip in the front bumper!! Quite a noticable mark as well! Rather upset lol!! Any tips on touching it up and prevention tips?!

To be honest I haven't had any problems with the Ibis so far apart from it being a magnet for bird sh!t... Two days in a row I've cleaned the car in the evening and come out in the morning to find it is covered in bird ****! Worst bit is it's the only one in the carpark of 20 odd cars that gets hit, madness!

Don't really know what the best way of preventing stone chips is... Maybe just don't run into them? lol. I actually have an imprint on my windscreen right in my vision so it's really annoying too! A friend said that sometimes if you go to Audi they will touch it up for you? Not willing to stand behind this 100% but it's defo worth a try!

Interesting to hear that! I will definitely give mine some good welly when I'm running it in. Not sure when it's even going to be produced, let alone when I can pick it up yet though!

Btw, I am coming from a background of owning a 182 Cup for 3 years and now running a 350Z which I've had for 16 months so I'm a little concerned about having a 'normal' diesel car too. Mine is also a company car so in some ways just looking forward to minimal worry with it, plus the looks and hopefully the build quality will make up for it :)

Sounds very much like me! Clio 182 cup also appears amongst the long list of cars I've had over the past few years, although I'm probably going to pass my 330Ci onto the missus as she only does a few miles a week so I'm hoping the fuel bill won't be too excessive

As you say, it's also the lack of worry of running a company car which is hard to ignore. I've been opting out and for the first couple of years I ran a 130i Msport, which is the only car I've ever bought myself from new. It was a fantastic car but in the end I just had to sell it as I couldn't stop worrying about it! Depreciation hit me hard as the recession was just starting to bite, Government were proposing the £500 silly tax, fuel was upto £1.25 (yep, and we're almost back there now) and I daren't leave it anywhere! In the A3 I'm going to have all my private fuel paid too, so no excuses not to get out and rack up some miles! :racer:

Spoke to the stealers yesterday and was told that I couldnt fit a front grille S-Line badge to my new BE because "the grille doesnt feature a small insert / small space like the old A3"

I can see what he means, but in reality, is that the case? To fit an S-Line badge would I need to carve a small gap out of the grille to clip it in?

P.S. Thanks for the pics, Sal. 3dr BE 170BHP quattro in phantom black on its way to me in the next week or so...! I do like the Ibis white ones, but prefer the mean and moody look of the jet black ones.

Passed the dealers tonight and they had an Ice Silver BE on the forecourt. I was looking for a pic when I was deciding on colour but as it's only recently been released I couldn't find one.

This is the first one I've seen so might be useful for someone trying to decide on colour..

Incidentally, I took the opportunity to nosey around a few others whilst I was there. I've chosen brushed alu inlays for my car, but having seen the piano black again tonight I'm not sure I've made the right choice! What's everyone's opinion on the piano black?

My Piano black inlays are scratched to buggery already, and the car is just over a year old. I have been real careful as well with cleaning them. If I were you I would definately go for the Alu.
Yes Piano look good when new but believe me, cheap and nasty when scratched

Noticed somebody mentioned that any orders from July this year for the A3 will be a 2011 model. Just wondered if that will be the end of the BE model or will Audi take it over to the facelifted model from July?

When i ordered my BE in January i knew nothing of what 2011 model year revisions there would be, i just knew that a brand new A3 model was expected early 2011 (so i guess i thought there may be no more tweaks to the current model). I figured by the time my 3 years are up if i really like the car then there should be a uitably tried and tested new A3 quattro with possibly a twin charger diesel option :)

Not such a fan of the chrome bits on the door handles, so whether things like that would stay on the BE if it carried over to the 2011 model year am not so sure, as the almost entire black look is great i think. I guess if you always held off based on what model revisions there may be you would never buy a car! My guess is the BE MAY be stopped as i am sure the website said something about end of June orders which ties in with the July comment.

Shame if the BE does get finished off when the new model takes over in June/July. It was the only A3 I fancied on my company car list as the flat bottom wheel, BOSE & Xenons are too expensive for me to spec onto a Quattro S Line 170 which is also on the list. I won't be ordering my car until September time so hopefully a new BE version will be about.

You can fit grille badge.. i have a BE and have fitted the badge, it comes with 2 clips that hold it in place and take about 2 mins to fit and is very hard to pull off again...
