    Hello all!

    I have a 2000 Audi S3 1.8T APY

Car is mint but for one annoying issue that rears it ugly head randomly

The Low Oil Pressure light has a habit of blinking on with the three bleeps... It usually turns itself off after 10 to 20 seconds. The car sounds and feels normal, no dodgy engine sounds at all...

first time it happened, I brought the car to my local Audi specialist who reckoned it would be a blocked pick up in the sump.

So off came the Sump. The pick up and sump pan was fine, no sludge build up.

he ran a pressure test and it was fine, just a little below the standard psi and well within normal levels

then that it... The issue was cured for the last 6 or 7 months! Only to randomly happen again, this time, after getting it serviced and again while reversing into the driveway at 1,200rpm!

    then fine

The engine sound perfect at all rpms

I would appreciate any input you all have

    thanks guys!

As above its got to be one of two possible things either you really do have low pressure which would be a oil pump/blockage issue or its a spurious warning in which case its a faulty sensor, from what you describe it sounds like sensor is most probable, and certainly easiest fix.

My gf's 9n polo did this, replaced the switch and it still did it. In the end I had to replace an earth strap on the engine and the problem fixed itself.

Thanks for your comments guys, I will look into the pressure switch and earthing... The oil used is Fuchs Titan GT1 5w40. I'm don't think the bearings are worn as surely the warning would always display when driven? not to mention make the engine sound dog rough? The light has only appeared 3 or 4 times in the 7 months I've owned the car...

It turned out to be a faulty pressure switch. Cheers Aragorn!
