Renewed an insurance policy for the runabout online last week, I went through moneysupermarket.com, and surprisingly, it gave me a rather good quote!

Anyways, the schedule of insurance was emailed to me, so I checked them over and realised it said 1yrs NCB when it should be 2, so I called them up to change it and just to refund any difference in premium if possible, but the operator on the other end was telling me the premium goes up when he changes the NCB to 2yrs! - :wtf:

So I'm now waiting for a call to see what they can do about it, as I said I wanted the policy to be cancelled if the premium goes up, as it doesn't make sense! What's the point of NCB if the premium goes up when I gain an extra year, I might aswell stay with 1yrs right?!

Other option from the operator is to continue with the policy as is, but he will make a note of my 2yrs NCB, and come renewal time, I have to remind them I will have had 3yrs NCB when the insurance is up for renewal in 12 months time, but he said I need to remember this and NOT forget it! lol

Maybe the administration charge of changing the policy out weighs the savings of the extra no claims. Insurers are so ****, and should be even more regulated to make sure everybody gets a fair price, I was doing mine the other day and it's mental how much 'discount' they will give... Why don't they just quote a fair price in the first place, then it saves messing about!

Did you book this insurance online?? If so, was the 1yrs NCB your mistake or their's??
If it's their's then they should offer you what you booked online.
If its your error then go to the website again and do an online quote with 2yrs NCB (you should do this anyway), then check the new figure against what they are now quoting.
If that comes in at less than what he's saying on the phone (and less than the premium you are paying for 1yrs NCB) then get them to match that price.

And there is NO WAY I'd go with the other option of leaving it as 1yrs NCB and remembering/putting notes on the policy to that effect. It's a recipe for disaster in the instance of a claim, and then you've gotta start explaining why they shouldn't void your cover based on incorrect infomation etc! No way jose!

There was no admin charge, as the policy hasn't even started yet, plus I have 14 days to cancel my insurance from the starting date(Feb 18th) with a full refund no question asked, so they would be very stupid to add an admin charge to this!

It would be my mistake isn't it, I may have accidently nudged the NCB icon with the mouse scroller without noticing.

Going to re-quote online actually to see what happens, but these guys was £150 lower than the next cheapest guys, so I'm keen to stick with them!

Hmmm ok, just updated the online quote thing, as it's stored my information, and changed NCB to 2yrs instead of 1, and the insurance has shot up! lol

And whilst typing this, the insurance company has just called me back to say they will keep me on the same insurance premium, but the records has been updated to 2yrs NCB, to which I said no more discount with an extra year? Operator said it's coming up as more expensive for some reason, but the insurance provider has kept my premium to the original quote to retain my business!

So I can't lose really... and this must be some kind of insurance loophole for anyone whose reading!.....

Isn't NCB purely a discount?? So... 1) your premium is your premium, based on experience/accidents/age/etc.... 2) they then apply your NCB, which just discounts the premium.
Didn't think it was used to calculate your premium.

So I'm struggling to find any logical explanation for 2yr NCB being more expensive than 1yr NCB.
Except.... an extra year of driving without a crash, gives you an inflated opinion of your driving skills, meaning you're more likely to drive like Lewis Hamilton and crash. Maybe???

Maybe the risk is higher for accidents or claims between years 2-3NCB?

it will be some computer glitch they may be targeting ppl with 1 years no claims so offering a bigger discount, will all be down to statistics like if you have a accident that wasn`t your fault your more likely to have another in the next 12 months so your premium goes up even though you were never at fault :(

I doubt it's a glitch, the insurance premiums for 76 companies all went up! Infact, the renewal quote from my original insurer was £100 less than the online quote, but my current quote is £150 less than that even. OK, I did away with courtesy car, as I have other cars to use anyways, but I did pay an extra 20 quid for legal cover, which still made my insurance premium still under £300 on a Toyota Rav4, not bad considering both me and the missus both have 6 points, though mine are about to dissappear in the next 6 months!

i got my first years ncb last nov and my insurance doubled! so i rang direct line and asked (nicely) just wtf that was all about, they spouted some utter ******** that everyones insurance has gone up due to all the accidents in the snow earlier in the year!?

i know that doesnt explain why your having this problem but it just goes to show that insurance companies should go eat man poo and die!

That's bad, because it normally the 1st year of NCB that gives you the most discount! Hope you shopped around and got yourself a good deal. I think a good 30 mins on the phone can help drop premiums when you play insurance companies off each other, and phone certain ones specifically.

"NEVER BUY DIRECT FROM ANY PRICE COMPARISON SITES"

I looked at some of these when I had a scoob. They come out at a reasonable price and when I called them up to double check the things that were missed out on them were diabolical. Then when I got a proper quote it was like £100+ more that my renewal!
Charges may be because of administration costs. If they made the mistake then they should do it for nothing. And for making a note for next years renewal quote I would tell to them stick that idea! What if you don't go with them? You wont have any proof and would of lost 1 years ncd and they may not even add it to there notes.

Like don't believe these companies that guarentee to beat your renewal either!
Churchillwas doing a while back and although to there credit, they did beat my renewal quote by a whole £1 I would of had to have a tracker fitted and working for an extra cost of around £500! I was like your taking the piss! lol

Also don't you have a 14 day calling off period?

I'm going to have to disagree with you here. Price comparison sites are great for 'standard' cars. Apart from my Rav4, all my other cars are modified, so I have to phone a load of companies up to get the premium down, but with the Rav4, moneysupermarket came up trumps for me.(albeit, with a little luck on the NCB thing)
