Who is YOUR GUY ? AP brakes in my opinion are the best there are and would be new and well tested with warrenty and very good resale value, so not quite the same as somebody doing i pick and mix form the VAG parts bin and making his own set up.

I've no doubt his set ups are very good but this is AP's specialist area and they are known as world leaders, £2K is alot of money granted but in line with a similar Brembo set up, I'm really lucky as I'm not paying anything like this as my previous car was used for all the development work so I'm getting a good discount, if I wasn't I would probably have been tempted to see what your Guy had to offer or would have gone down the route of TT-RS set up for its OEM look.

I attended a track day last Friday and tge standard S3 set up is pretty good but after several laps the pedal goes soft and at one point went to the floor just prior to the chicane at Oulton park, thankfully I was treating the car gently for 2 reasons - it ws it's first outing with 1,300 mikes on the clock and secondly I was desperate to preserve the tyres as all spare money is supposedly for the Baby fund !

Just got me a new set of thease from the BREMBO GT KIT, a MASSIVE callipers with 4 pistons... a 355mm drilled 2 peace floating disc will follow... I think its the best brake setup currently available for the S3... and with a total weight of 10.2kg per side.:wub:

Brembos look gorgeous!! I've had a total re-think now and wil be offering up my agreement with AP, I still want the set up eventually but would prefer a set of wheels and KW3 first.

Anyone interested in an AP set up pm me and I'll speak to my contact on your behalf as they will be keen to market this kit so need to get some fitted for final fitment testing etc, they will need your S3 for min 1 day, based in the midlands. Please do not contact them directly until I have had opportunity to speak to them, consider this a heads up and the chnace to get a very good discount, Spin

I've more brakes than I need with my AP 4pot kit with Ferodo DS2500 pads, and even that has a smaller disc size than the stock S3 iirc.

Speaking of "gorgeous" street based kits, I still think the current lineup of Brembo Gran Turismo or Alcon Advantage are the prettiest looking of the bunch. Would love to be proved wrong though.

Alright guys, I have a set of s3 front brakes for sale on the Mk5GofGTIForum. I'm not sure how to post links but you can check them out on there or PM me if you want some pics. They are nice and fresh with very little wear on the discs and pads. Also have a R32 front brake setup available for a bit less if the budget is a bit tighter :)

The XYZ brakes along with the XYZ company and D2 Racing is apsolutley sh***, trust me its not worth even the slightest amount of money they are selling it, and its the cheapest by far out there, 4x times less expensive than Brembo and 1000x worse... This company is also a ownew of D2 racing which was a compleate fall out 6-7years ago and they just renamed it to D2 Racing and posted some picuters of race cars with the same logo D2 (Deutsche telekom) wtf??????? So my point is that it by far the baddest thing available out there and you would be 10 times better off with a OEM S3 Brakes....

Considering that a K-sport 8 piston brake kit costs 1,600$ I think you would be right, but thers not much you can expect with that brakes, however it all depends in what your after, if you track your car alot and you are after performance than thats not the way to go, however if you are looking for some fasion and are satisfied with oem brakes you are ok, but MY OPINION is that its not worth spending event that kind of money into something thats just not worth and doesnt offer much improvment over stock... that is just my opinion...

i am interested in everybodys opinions, have you tested or been in a car with theD2, XYZ or k-sport set up? its just i know a few lads who had the XYZ on evo's and seemed to like them and i know quite a few time attack teams use the k-sport aswell, I think for road use the k-sport and XYZ would probably be a good alternative, if i had the cash and took part in numerous track events i would be swung towards the alcons

I personally have never had any experience with K-Sport or XYZ but i also have read that several EVO time attack cars use them and they always seem to get a good write up on the Evo forum MLR.

I guess people are welcome to thier opinion but it's always better if based on first hand experience, things can improve so perhaps the company should be cut some slack.

For me personally though if you are prepeared to spend £1600 you may as well bite the bullet and spend an additional few hundred to get a set up from one of the market leaders, I'd agree that Alcon look exceptional after viewing their site.

Sometimes sponsorship can do wonders for publicity.

Time attack cars just need to go balls out for one lap after the warmup? Not the best series to display braking prowess imho.
Just like drift cars with trick brake setups, what's the point?

Circuit race-cars are another matter...especially the endurance types.

Sounds similar to the comments you posted on the twintake write up, "bla bla your better with OEM intake rather than a twintake bla bla an open filter is better than sealed bla bla"
You never have anything good to say about anything unless its fitted to your car lol

Good point and agree totally with. As far as i am aware reading from MLR forum K Sport are copies of AP brakes as they use the same pad design and disc/bells. Now weather they are a good copy or not i cannot say. I wasn`t willing to risk my life on a set of cheap brakes so spent £1900 on my HiSpec set up with the monster pads, DS2500 pads are over £200 + VAT a pair.

indeed, you may find though that the lad promoting them had the XYZ 6 pot set up on his evo rather than an astra

like most tuning upgrades it takes someone to take the plunge and opt for the 'cheaper' option before it will catch on with others

it was 1600 dollars for the 8 pot set up i think they are selling for around £850 in the uk

i have read numerous reviews about the alcon set up and they all seem to be full of praise its also a mono block caliper if im not mistaken?

nah andy (the guy in question) was running the standard set up on his burg, he did have the XYZ set up on his fq340 evo though as he gets his tuning done through AI autosport who are the uk and ireland distributors of XYZ

Thats what I am saying... this mod is WAY to important to be experimenting with it... I guarantee the those cheap brakes didnt have the slightest tests before going on sale like brembo, stoptech, alcon, hispec etc... did... those prices are there for a reason not just paying the brand... Its very interesting to see that nobody saves when it comes to exhausts, intakes, pumps etc... but when it comes to the MOST IMPORTANT thing in a tuned high powerd car, all of a sudden people try the go as chepest as possible.... Aspecialy if your looking to upgrade your brakes it means that your driving style is not a grandpa one, which means I wont be trusting thase cheap brakes when going over 120mph... but thats just MY OPINION.....

i understand and to some extent i agree with you, IF i was partaking in numerous track days then yes i would certainly be looking at the alcon set up as i said earlier BUT i dont do track days, i do the odd 1/4 mile therefore i dont see it necessary and for the majority of people who like the odd spirited drive they are not likely to push their car to the same extremes thats why i think these are a better cost option. As for paying for the brand i find AP rotors very pricey to replace and they have a history of cracking . . .

I dont agree about them not being tested i dont think such companys like AI autosport who seem to be a highly respected tuning company would offer these products if they were deemed unsafe? i could be wrong though and the evo lads seem to have no worries running the k-sports etc and they are running similar if not more power to us. As i said it will probably take one or more people to take the plunge before others look at them as an option, afterall its the reviews that we read on here which help others to make a decision
