Just reading http://people.bath.ac.uk/ccsshb/12cyl about the most efficient engine in he world.

At approx 109,000 hp and 2300 tons, it's only 47 hp/ton. However, I wonder how it would go, should you be able to wrap it in some king of automotive body!

Suggish off the line, but monster top-end?

Jeeze! That'll require a very long, very wide and very high B5 bodyshell to cover it! :scared2:

I hear MRC do a chip for it, taking it to 140,000 hp. You can also fit a set of after market GT28000 turbos...

I am thinking some of the bike engines are powerfull. Is the MV Agusta 1000cc engine 186hp and they are not that heavy.
How about the V8 engines made from two bike engines, pistons, rods and barrels onto a custom crankcase. At least 450hp not heavy either.

What, exactly, is it about this engine that alows it to achieve over 50% thermal efficiency? Why are car engines so poor at approx 25%?

Is it simply down to size? I keep telling the mrs size isnt important!
