Do you mean how to get the fastest launch/start from 0-100kph?

The quickest is to hold the rpm at about 4000rpm,select 1st and just sidestep the clutch.

If you do that a few times you'll end up needing a new clutch ,gearbox and possibly propshafts.

The other way is to use lower revs(say about 3000rpm) and feed the clutch up as you increase the throttle.

It's smoother and more mechanically friendly.

    Thought so.

    See what I've written above.

The fastest method will knacker one or other part of your drivetrain sooner or later.

The other is a little slower but works pretty well and requires a bit more skill with the footwork.

it would not die because of the low rpm? lose pressure or what it calls. 3000 rpm hmm :p

Depends on whether you want bragging rights at the pub or bragging rights at the garage.

The secret is to experiment a bit and see what works best without wrecking your car.

Try 3000rpm and feed in the accelerator as the clutch comes up then maybe a bit more next time if the car bogs down.

maybe turn esp/traction control/ off too whilst lauching? may get wheel spin but won't bog down?

Aircon off, windows down, pre launch poo in the toilet for weight loss.

The same issues are there, apart from the DSG clutch pack which is better than the manual clutch, and of course, launch is automatic.

You still have to consider how much you like your gearbox, propshafts and transfer case.

So you can't just launch all the time then? I kinda of thought that you could just floor the auto boxes without too much problem? I'm too scared to give mine too much in 1st and 2nd as I'm still on clutch number 1 with a stage 1

Put it another way.....yes,you can,but the gearbox is not the car's strongest point.

You can put a lot of torque through it,and a lot more than it's specc'd for,but as with all things mechanical, the rougher you treat it,the shorter it's life.

The manual S3 clutch is rubbish, and good for stock power and about 10% more, but the gearbox will deal with around 500lbs,but it does increase wear and shorten life.
The same applies to the DSG.

When I got the car I would have gone for a manual all day long but I don't find it that smooth and I think when I trade up for the s3 I think ill go dsg but after your comment maybe keep the launches to a minimum 😇

It's sensible,if you plan on keeping the car,and also if you modify it,you have to remember the extra loads involved.

Good advice Alex as much as we have a giggle on this forum sometimes I reckon it's saved me a lot of money and headache since I bought my car. Things like haldex servicing that I never knew and failing DVs only found out about through here

Thats the thing......when you uprate an engine substantially, any margins in things like the gearbox and drivetrain are eaten up pretty quickly.

Also, there's a world of difference between feeding in the torque reasonably gently, and doing it with a bang....I know a couple of people who've chewed propshafts doing that, but to be fair, most of these issues are on modified cars.
