If you want the best service and quality product speak to Jody at Midland VW I've been using them for five years theve an outstanding reputation on the VAG scene and a custom code dealer. http://www.midlandvw.co.uk

I've had a Jetex pannel filter for four years no issues

The remap was all or nothing no power mid or top end and when we took it to another remap specialist they showed us how the chip was badly soldered onto the ecu this was a 1.8t beetle

The st3 looks a very good price for what you get.

3 different maps plus a switch for £330!!

    Anybody using this?

I wouldn`t touch Chipped UK or what ever they are calling themselfs either but you would be surprised how many "custom" remap companies are just franchise dealers for Chipped UK and buy/sale Chipped UK maps but call them their own.
The ST3 box is an Alientech box which has had three maps put on it. The Alientech box is very good as i have a version of it myself but how good the maps are and where the maps actually came from is anyones guess.
A panel filter isn`t going to really make sod all difference to a mapped car as i paper filter can flow plenty enough air for any map you will get for a stock turbo. If you want a panel filter though Green is very popular which no doudt navnayyar would have recommended and posted a link to if FR tuning sold them but i guess they don`t.

Going by what mikey is saying, you dont need a aftermarket filter so links or names of other filters doesnt matter. As for the st3, yes its a rebranded alientech powergate but this is common knowledge and i guess no company selling them with their own maps is denying this. I wont start on the st3 cos mikey has this out on another thread before :) im only speaking from my personal experience and have seen my 'custom' maps being made, so no fr&rtuning are not a franchise of anybody else. Actually they have their own franchisees if you look on their website. Best not to judge if you dont know. Open forum everyone's entitled to their say and reccomendations

thanks for the replies, so is there no benefit over the standard air filter then? her standard air filter needs replacing anyway so was thinking of swapping it for a panel filter (unless a induction kit setup would be better?)
as for remapping shes not in a hurry for the remap so we'll see what places seem to come out best with reviews.

youll have to bare with me as im not very knowledgable with these cars im a 'ford' man myself lol but willing to learn

    cheers

There is no "best" panel filter. There are several different types of panel filter design which effect how they work. K+N flow lots of air because they do not actually filter the air very well letting larger particles into your engine. This i believe is why K+N has started to get a bad rep for because when people oil the filter after cleaning most people tend to over oil the filter when to much is a lot worse then not enough. Since the panel filter is very porous it lets drips flow through and out the other side which then goes on to your MAF killing the MAF. Personally i would stick to the paper filter or get a dry filter like Amsoil then you know you will not kill your MAF plus dry filters do not relies on oil to capture the particles but the actual filter it self so the filter has to be good at filtering the incoming air unlike the said K+N unit.

I just bought an FK Automotive panel filter for my 140 TDI. Haven't fitted it yet (fitting it on monday), but it's exactly the same as a K&N filter. But a lot cheaper. I've been told that FK and K&N is made by the same specs aswell.

Unscrew the philips screws on top of the airfilter box and it just lifts up and you can pull out the old filter.

The filter comes un-oiled. I bought a cleaning kit at a random auto acessories shop. Green filter made my kit. Comes with both oil and cleaning fluid.
