Quick question, what is the best temp to check your oil level to give you the most accurate reading?

    cheers

I always check my levels cold. You could check engine oil hot but wait at least 2-3 mins for all the oil to return to the sump. It doesn't matter what temp you check it TBH.

Coolant on the other hand - Always COLD as checking hot will give a false (too high) reading.

I've found the dip-stick very hit and miss.

The two different sides of it tend to give different readings (one side has a circle, one side is all hashes) and the readings seem to vary according to which way round you replace the dip-stick!

I check the level often because mine leaks oil!

I don't think I've ever had to check the dipstick in my car.

I drive around 1500 miles, the oil warning light comes on,I chuck in a litre....

    Quite thoughtful of Audi really.

There'll be dispensing oil at the pumps on the forecourt for you soon Bowfer!

At least you can get the oil filler cap open, unlike the fuel filler flap! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yeah,it takes the phrase 'oil burner' a wee bit too literally.

I thought Saab made the last two-stroke car.
