Was a very close match, the s3 does very well indeed.

we both gunned it and the s3 initially took off, m3 started to pull back in 2nd. Then the change to 3 and the s3 just edged.

    Was fun...

good stuff, what did the M3 sound like?

Was it the newer one? or older version?

no doubt you will get some sad arse replying telling you that you are an arse for racing on public roads etc blah blah...............

I take it it was wet?

As for racing on public roads, I know there are times and places where it's perfectly safe to do so, providing it doesn't get out of hand, but be aware that, if the police catch you and charge you with racing then you can expect to have the book thrown at you as they take this very very seriously. Just a friendly warning to be careful where and when you do it :)

Cool and im assuming that your S3 is with the stock engine...then imagine what a S3 with chip would do...bye bye M3:rockwoot:

Surprised , the M3 should tonk you really on paper, 11 seconds to 100mph.
Was it wet ? as I suppose you would have the upper hand then.

    Well done anyway

    Cheers

must of been wet or the guy wasnt trying as an M3 should woop the s3 esp in the dry as you loose a lot of power with the quattro system

i had a bit of fun yesterday with something japanese and turbo charged (i could tell this as it was hissing and chirping like a rally car - think it might have been an old mr2 GT4 - bout 200bhp standard but methinks this was a bit fiddled with. Anyway i put launch control on and when the lights changed went for it - and it was funny cos i left him standing, i could here his turbo spooling up and as it did it caught up until changing gear - this is when i really had the edge as the S-tronic instant changes made a hell of a difference, until he got in third and spooled it up then he blew past but this wasnt until 60 - up until then i was ahead - i was pretty pleased that id shown him up somewhat in my derv burner!!!

This was on a dual carriageway by the way - as above i was just making progress in the clear road ahead and i think he took it i wanted a race! ;-)

But you clearly do not drive a solar orange S3 and you were not seeing off an M3, so, your point is?

Dont under estimate the new S3 and its ability to lauch away, 0-60 is by no means the definitive test but an S3 vs. an M3 to 60 would be very very close and the S3 would probably just edge ahead, especially so in the wet obvioulsy. The link below is my stock S3 vs an M3 CSL with modifed exhaust in the dry at Santa Pod.

M3 CSL posted times 0.7 seconds faster than the S3 to 1/4 mile but. Once past 100 I am sure the M3 and especially the CSL would pull away. What a great noise from the CSL too

Jeez! Must admit though the roads in iraq were a bit scary. I was driving a disco one day and had to brake hard and went skidding down the tarmac!!

You cannot beat a M3 with a stock S3 unless the M3 driver is a mama's boy. The S3 has a better start (quattro) but on 3rd and 4th gear the M3 would be quicker.

I can tell you the guy seemed like a racer... He was slipping the clutch.

We both launched giving me half a car length. Then really the M3 and s3 were pretty much equal. I wouldn't calling it beating him, it was more of an edge win. He was going for it though.

    I don't condone racing...

I think M3 engines vary a lot in performance, some are good, some aren't so good. Thats why they specially pick the good ones for the CSL.

Maybe the guy you raced didn't get lucky with this engine.
