    Hi Guys,

Have got it down to BBS now (i think)

    Few questions..

    1. What is perfect size for S3 in 19"??
    2. Standard tyre size on the S3 is 225 width. I know people run 215 stretch for clearance but one thing i want to ask.. does this not reduce contact area to road surface?? wouldnt it affect the handling in a negatove way??
    3. of all the people here, are you happy you went wih 19's?
    4. are a BBS CH 19" 8j heavier than an std S3 wheel?

    this is where im at...

i want CH's.. im very in to driving the car. i dont want to affect the handling in any bad way... with 19's im going to get the amazing looks.. but with it you get reduced tyre width between raod suface and rim = harsher ride. and now the contact area issue + they are really quite heay (. With 18's im going to gain width ++contact area to road, keep the same ride comfort but am going to miss out massively on looks which i dont really want to do..

im sort of thinkin to get 19's and worst ways if i dont like it change to 18's which would be a safer bet than gettin 18's then having to spend again on 19's... :sadlike:

last question... has anyone got a pic of an s3 with 18" ch's in silver(wheel colour) lowered?? ill help me decide how good/bad 18's look!

    cheers

My 19's are fine, no rubbing etc with 225's but I know some people do. It all depends on how much it's lowered by, offset etc.
I don't think it's changed the handling, but they do feel a fraction heavier than my 18's.... And they look the nuts too!

    Cheers Pete!

ok, this helps. Just been on the phone to PW Motorsport.. Phil said some people were having issues with the CK lowered on a 225? he said it can depend on the tyres even?? What tyres u running? CK's in my opinion are a better looking wheel for the S3. i love the CH but they look much better on a 3 series in 10j whereas the CK looks sweet as it is, plus less people have them... plus the CH are £300+ which is a lot when i got to buy another four tyres after just spending £600 on ps'2 :faint:
by the way decked your car is the bolo**s!! i love it.. love the seats, love the mods, love the wheels. one of the best s3's i know of! :icon_thumright:

i know but im under no circumstances reducing contact area between road/car as it = worse handling.. im quite a hard driver :racer:

loving the new pic of the seats N8! :hubbahubba:

If you want no chance of rubbing, perfect handling, light weight, etc. etc. then I'd stop being a tight arse and get the CH's!

Speak to Toby or Gary at Rimstyle - they sorted me out with mine, next day delivery from stock, and they have a lot of tyre options too.

CH's in 8 X 19 ET50 with 225 tyres is the best fitment and guarantees no rubbing. Weight of this set up is exactly same as stock ( i weighed each set up ) 22.5 kgs IIRC.

    CK's weigh a tad more than CH's.

Ride on the 19's is perfect even on our roads.

Should be getting them within the next 2 weeks, I'm going purple, and having my purple re-trim as well  I will hopefully get better stance on the CHs, will run 10mm spacer front and 12/15mm rear...

My CH's rubbed on 235's, but not at all on 225's.

225's are a few quid more, but worth it IMO.

N8 I have a set of H&R Hubcentric spacers, 10mm front, 12mm rear up for sale soon, been on 2 weeks, now looking at rims instead to accomodate the monster brakes, give me a shout if interested.

I need 16mm extra Claiper clearance so looking at ET42 min, parking will be fun :)

I run Falkens in 235's. Rub rub rub. When I changed to 225's I went with Conti's which cost £600ish for 4 which was quite a good deal at the time and better than any other proper brands in that size.

I'm running 19" CK's on 215's as I had lowered the car and didn't want any rubbing. I've since removed the springs as they were making a helluva racket in the rear. I'll either run new H&R springs on the 215's, 225's on stock springs, or invest in coilovers. Anyway, here's a couple of pics. Certainly not stretched IMO and the ride is fine on the 215's, although I've not chucked it about quite yet. They are Falken's by the way.

I think I am in the minority of actually liking 18" - they seem plenty big enough to me, amazing that 10 years ago 17" was considered big !!

The benefits of 19" are clear to see with good aesthetics and good residuals due to high demand but there are a fair few negatives IMO, premium tyres are on average £50 more expensive per corner and then there must be a negative impact on ride and weight if riding on standard suspension ?

18" are for Homos though- MMMMMMMmmmm :)

on an 8" rim i personally would nt use any less than 225 , this is ideal size on the S3 with 19" rims . 19 s only look good and and dont improve any thing performance wise , couple of guys i know have gone from 19 " to 18" light weight (speedline and td pro race 1.2 ) and they sat the drive of the car is increased dramatically , i currently have RS 4 reps on mine with 225/35/19 falkans fk452 and imo it dont drive any different to oem , no rubbing AT ALL

People will run 19" rims on their car, PURELY for looks, not for performance, most people do engine mods to improve performance

thats not true mate , performance is nt just how fast it goes its how the car performs overal inc steering , turn in , feed back etc 19 " rims will not do any thing to improve the performance only cosmetics , n8 speak to guys who have fitted light weight alloys for there opinion

    I've fitted CKII's (19's) to my S3 Sportback.

    ET44
    H&R Springs
Orginally went with 225/35/19 Falken FK452's but they rubbed

to say it a little louder19" x 8J + ET44 and 225/35 profile tyres will rub on an S3 Sportback

Hopefully me repeating this will save others the head ache I had in changing my tyres over and then selling the 225's and being £170 down for the pleasure :(

With the 3 dr you can get away with 225/35/19's 19 x 8J on an ET44 on H&R's (as per Decked's above) without an issue. Maybe even 235's depending on tyre selection (as per Boydie's)

Regarding performance - obviously the ride is harsher slightly - but I noticed this more when going from standard to H&R springs, than when I went to the 19's, its noticable slightly.

I didnt notice any difference when going from 225 down to 215's for everyday driving - I suppose under the full right boot it will be noticable but I havent noticed it yet.

I drive quickly on a blast out maybe 10% of the time so for the other 90% my car looks 100% better and doesnt rub its tits in. So 215's was an easy decision for me.

I'll add some pics tomorrow if I get chance of mine on the 215's now, but seems this is a BBS thread it'd be a shame not to add some pics of them in 225 guise. ;)

In the minority here, but here is mine on 19" CKs on standard springs......yes i agree it looks better dropped, but it's not bad at the back, front looks a little 4x4, but i can drive it as normal and not have to worry about speedbumps....

Tyres are 225 35 19 Contisport Contact 3's, probably one of the most expensive tyres in that size (around £180 a corner), only got them because they were cheap on flee-bay from a private seller who had decided not to stick them on his Alfa.

Good tyres, but took a while to scrub in. Not convinced the car handles any differntly to the original 18's on the Michelin Exaltos.

Can't say the bumps are that much worse, just a little more bite to the current endless supply of potholes!
