Just came back from the doctors this morning and as I approached a mini roundabout, smeo stupid woman in a zafira came flying around the corner forcing me into a Citroen xsara.

She did a runner and left me dealing with an Italian (Citroen owner) about insurance details.

Now in the eyes of the law it was my fault as I scraped his car. But we settled outside insurance companies for £80.

Damage to his car was a scraped rear bumper
My car has a 4ft scrape across both passenger doors.

So not the best day today!

I've wrote a receipt up saying

'sum of £80 only to settle the incident between audi a4 (my reg) and Citroen xsara (his reg)
    Dated: 4 feb 2014

Signed by the both of us'

Do you think this is the right way to go about it?
We will both have a copy of the receipt too.

Unlucky that....£80 sounds like a bargain to me, did he snap your arm off

If he did maybe he didnt actually have any insurance or driving licence ?

or his car was a banger anyway so he wasnt bothered ?

I dont think you will hear anything again re that incident

It was an 02 plate Citroen so don't think he was that bothered.
I offered him £50 then he said £80 which I agreed.
He asked me if I had insurance which I have and I asked him, he said yes but which a nervous look about him.

I didn't take any photos mike.
But since I've wrote a receipt up he can't take it any further anyway as we both signed it.

I'm just more cheesed off about the damage to mine. Most will polish out though which I'm please about.

    I agree with Bez,

Something similar happened to me ages ago when i had a land rover and the Asian guy wanted money, he wouldnt give me his insurance details so i rang the police, he soon shot off.

Bez and archies tbh he was an okay bloke, yeah I'm £80 down
But I could of made things worse really.
I'm only 23, with 5.5 years driving and 4 years protected NCB.
So didn't really wanna potential damage this.

He if was being a Cnut I would of called the local plod. But I personally didn't see the need too.

Similar thing happened to a mate of mine in his gsr lancer a few years ago... Young one in a rover 25 rolled down a hill and into the front of him... Made bits of both cars... Everyone in her car signed a bit of paper saying they were ok etc... Next thing ya no he has a massive claim in against him for whiplash etc... The piece of paper was worth nothing... Even the plod said it so just be careful mate... It could come back and haunt you but he seems to be sound enough with what you have said.. Don't mean to frighten you but some people can be like that... Best of luck

Might be worth you checking askMID using his reg from your 'receipt' if you want to check the validity of his insurance. It won't tell you if HE was insured to drive the car you had a run in with but it will let you know if the car was insured at all.

And apologies for the tone of doom and gloom, but not notifying your insurance of a bump, however small can get you into trouble.......just a polite warning. Obviously it will affect your premium on renewal, but you are running the risk of invalidating your policy should you have another incident and they find out about this one. Insurance companies will try anything not to pay out if they can!! My ex-gf was an insurance broker and I've heard several tales about non-payouts from people not disclosing info to their insurance.

Nothing worse than the person in the Zafira causing the bump running off though!

    Car is cleaned.
    Rinsed with karcher k4
Used two bucket method (1st time ) with autoglym body shampoo.

Used some diluted tfr on the lower bumpers, diesel cap and wheels.

    Rinsed all off.

    Looks 100x better.

As for the damage. Couple if small creases where the two doors meet. And a 2ft scrape along the two doors about 5inch about the middle trim.

I'm going to tackle it with some g3 tomorrow, and get some mega #105/205.
The full car needs paint correction anyway.
The weekend will see it tar removed, clay bared and g3'd.
Next week will megs and wax it.

Before and after pics will come
